We began our session looking at an unusual science article showing images of a two-headed snake. Teddy was very interested in this rare reptilian phenomenon, and we read and learned a little about it. Next, we learned about the celebration of Cinco de Mayo. Teddy shared his knowledge about this holiday and learned more information to add to his existing knowledge base. We learned that it commemorates Mexico’s victory over the French during a battle that occurred 163 years ago. We looked at pictures and read that we celebrate here in the United States with parades, festivals, Mariachi bands, Mexican folk music, dancing, Mexican and Mexican American cuisine, and festive costumes. We watched a mariachi band play songs and learned the vocabulary words 'commemorate' and 'cuisine,' amongst others that came up in our research.

Teddy and I started out in the kitchen. We took inventory of the ingredients available. Since it was slim pick'ns, so we decided to learn about cooking outside of the kitchen. We navigated to Nearpod.com and explored "The Importance of Measuring" and "Why We Cook". Two takeaways from TIOM would be to never plunge your measuring cup into a container of flour because it compacts it and to spray cooking spray in your liquid measuring cup before measuring honey so it won't stick. Two takeaways from WWC would be that people cook to live but they also live to cook and food brings people together whether they are doing the cooking or whether they are having someone else cook for them. Teddy expressed that he loves to eat and to cook.
