This morning we learned about adaptations of dolphins. Arianna and I watched a short video about the unique adapatations of these marine mammals and the education efforts of the national aquarium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jmXcfRXjDI. Arianna and I read short passages about dolphins and began to learn why dolphins do not drown when they sleep. We will continue this lesson next session.
Arianna continues to work 0n chapter 6:” Southeast and Gulf States”- Lesson 2 “The Southeast and Gulf States Today”. We discussed the major changes in the region's industries throughout the years. Next, I introduced her next project. She will be creating a travel brochure featuring a national park in Florida.
Arianna and I focused on finding the perimeter of polygons. She added all of the side lengths of polygons as well as found the length of missing sides with the given perimeter. Then, she completed two mental math minutes on basic addition facts and quick quizzes on patterns and probability. We finished with a review on metric measurement and Arianna measured items to the nearest millimeter using an online metric ruler.
Arianna did an acting exercise where you use a random picture and pretend it's "show and tell." We used scenes from cartoons to voice them with the sound off. We continued reading a Harry Potter script. We watched the beginning of a Broadway production of Peter Pan.
Arianna read two articles in Scholastic News, one about Candytopia, a display of creatures created from candy, and another about a fossil park in New Jersey where kids can dig for fossils twice a year. Arianna connected to the Candytopia article because she shot a part of her music video at the display in Miami. We read the next chapter in Harry Potter and wrote a response to the reading in Microsoft Word.
Yanuell and Arianna were given the drawing prompt of "HAPPY". They had 30 minutes to complete their designs and present them. Afterward we moved on to make sure that their Adobe software was properly installed.
Arianna was instructed to open up the student website, go to her new Web page that was created for her, and began construction of her Web page. I walked Arianna through uploading a template for the page and she began placing content beginning with her header image. Arianna chose Ariana Grande as the subject for her site, she chose the image, I showed her how to resize the image, she placed it on the site and saved her work.
Today we discussed the topic of how food is transformed into energy and energy transfer within food chains. Arianna completed two learning activities to demonstrate her understanding of the topic.
