Arianna read just a few more pages in Harry Potter before she was needed for rehearsals. The excitement is palpable as we prepare to be entertained by our Batt School Stars.
This morning we completed the unit on animal behavior with a review of concepts and terms. We also watched and discussed two short videos on animal behavior. The first video featured the Boise Zoo and a variety of questions from students about zoology and animal behavior: https://www.pbs.org/video/science-trek-zoology/.
Arianna and I read chapters 11-13 in “The Adventures of Charles Pierce; The Last Egret” by Harvey Oyer III. She added words to the list of unfamiliar words, wrote their meaning, drew a picture, and added a sentence for each one. She continued to add to her list of the Florida animals and plants mentioned in the story.
Arianna finished chapter 15 and started chapter16 of Harry Potter. It certainly feels like the story is reaching its climax, as Harry and Ron are on the verge of uncovering the chamber and all its secrets. Arianna’s predictions are proven accurate and she successfully uses context clues to determine the meanings of unfamiliar vocabulary. We practiced distinguishing run-on sentences from complete sentences and she excelled at using the correct homonyms in context.
Arianna worked on her star for the talent show. She worked on her song for the talent show. We watched blooper scenes from Harry Potter. We started reading a Harry Potter script.
Arianna spent a portion of her time with Zeta and Morgan rehearsing their dance for the talent show. Then, we continued to work with fraction concepts. Arianna and I reviewed simplifying fractions, finding equivalent fractions, and interchanging improper fractions and mixed numbers before she completed practice lessons.
Arianna's spiral review consisted of place value to the hundred millions, comparing fractions, fractions of a set in simplest form, and completing fact families. Then, Arianna practiced multiplication facts with 50 basic facts in 3-minutes. Today's lesson looked at how to name fractions greater than 1 as improper fractions or mixed numbers. We used models and number lines to show quantities greater than 1 before Arianna wrote the amount in both ways.
Arianna continued to work on the unit review in preparation for the a unit exam that she will take later this week. This review will help us to identify topics that require review prior to the formal assessment.
