Arianna practiced spelling words with long vowel sounds. She used new vocabulary words to fill in cloze sentences and matched them with synonyms and antonyms. We read most of chapter 15 of Harry Potter. This chapter has loads of strong vocabulary, which she successfully used context clues to work out.
During this morning's session, Arianna and I began a unit review in preparation of the a unit exam that she will take later this week. This review will help us to identify topics that require review prior to the formal assessment.
1. Arianna worked to make more Harry Potter wands giving them the finishing touches. This is her community service project and she will sell them on Thursday. The money raised will go to a charity she selected.
2. Arianna and I read chapters 9 in “The Adventures of Charles Pierce; The Last Egret” by Harvey Oyer III. She added words to the list of unfamiliar words in her journal. Then looked them up, wrote their meaning, drew a picture, and added a sentence using the word. She continued to add to her list of the Florida animals and plants mentioned in the story.
After previewing vocabulary, we read chapter 14 of Harry Potter. Once again, Arianna was quick to point out events that have foreshadowed things happening now. She loves putting together the bits and pieces of information that Ms. Rowling weaves together. She also made some strong predictions based on information in the story. We used Reading Express to practice using cause/effect, sequence and inference in context.
This session we completed the animal behavior activity powerpoints and then discussed the project. We compared the behaviors of the coral snake and fox and described the main characteristics of each species. She printed a copy of the report and described it to a few instructors and Miss Judie.
Arianna began with her spiral review on fractions, making equations true, estimating products, long division, and word problems. Then, we reviewed how to simplify fractions using division and common factors as well as finding equivalent fractions using division or multiplication. For today's lesson, we used models and number lines to represent fractions with a value greater than 1 and reviewed the terms improper fraction and mixed number.
Arianna worked on a variety of fraction concepts today. First, we used dry erase markers to draw equivalent fractions represented by two different fractions of a whole. Then, she used fraction strips to find equivalent fractions on a number line and compared fractions using comparison symbols. Finally, Arianna matched fractions to their models which were represented equivalently.
Arianna worked to make more Harry Potter wands to sell next week. She painted 5 more adding her finishing touches to them. This is her community service project . The money raised will go to a charity she selected.
Arianna has almost completed the animal behavior study project. This week she has been learning about the biology, behavior, and threats to coral snakes. Once she has completed the second half of the presentation, we will complete a compare and contrast activity on the two species of animals and discuss animal behavior in depth.
Paint the background for her lion picture. Use acrylic tube paint to create more intense color and texture. Use three shades of green to create distance and blades of grass.

She said that she just loved to paint with me. We "could" spend all afternoon together!
