Arianna reviewed the last 6 chapters of Harry Potter and answered 15 comprehension questions correctly. She practiced identifying similes and drew her interpretation of 4 we found in Harry Potter. We read the rest of chapter 13, which ended with a shattering cliffhanger. J.K.Rowling is a master of creating multifaceted characters who seem too nice to ever do anything wrong.
Arianna assisted in painting her character on the Shepherd Canvas Project. I had Arianna choose a color or colors that she would like to place on the shirt and skirt of her character. She placed the colors and finished up her work by painting the hair of her character.
This morning Arianna continued to work on the animal behavior project with research on the coral snake. She successfully completed three new slides for the project.
Arianna and I read chapters 6 - 8 in “The Adventures of Charles Pierce; The Last Egret” by Harvey Oyer III. She added to the list of unfamiliar words in her journal, then looked them up, wrote their meaning, drew a picture, and added a sentence using the word. She is also making a list of the Florida animals and plants mentioned in the story.
Arianna and I continued to work with fractions and how to write them in simplest form or so that the numerator and denominator have no common factors other than 1. Using division, Arianna found the simplest form of numerous fractions or determined if they were already in simplest form. She found common factors of the numerator and denominator if she did not immediately recognize the factor needed to divide by. A spiral review was also completed on equivalent fractions and using all operations to solve word problems.
Arianna continued work with parts of speech and practiced identifying temporal words in writing samples. She previewed vocabulary for and read the next chapter in Harry Potter. Her prediction about the outcome of Harry’’s first potion experience was proven inaccurate, and the information gathered during the experience was surprising. She made several predictions about what is to come in chapter 13.
Arianna and I read chapters 2 - 6 in “The Adventures of Charles Pierce; The Last Egret” by Harvey Oyer III. She looked up unfamiliar words, wrote the meaning of the words, a sentence using the word and drew a picture to help her better understand the meaning of the words. She is creating a novel study journal to accompany this book. This journal will have her record and do many different activities as we read this book on Florida in the 1800’s.
Arianna continued her work on identifying and using nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. She previewed new vocabulary for the next two chapters of Harry Potter. After summarizing the previous chapter, she continued reading to learn how Harry and his friends fare with their first potion.
Arianna continued to work on her animal behavior project to compare the biology and behavior of a red fox to a coral snake. This morning she proofread and printed the red fox portion of her PowerPoint slides and began to work on the coral snake data collection.
