Arianna warmed-up with two subtraction facts mental minutes and a quick quiz on using multiplication to find total amounts of equal groups. Then, on Khan Academy, she took a mastery review challenge on estimating length in customary units and volume in customary and metric units. We spent the remainder of time on 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication, multiplying with area models, multiplying by 10s, and estimating products. Finally, Arianna and I went through all of the multiplication facts using online flashcards. She wrote down 10 that she continuously struggles with to study for homework.
This morning we learned about a fourth way that fossils are formed: tree resin that turns into amber. We reviewed examples of the process and then discussed how these fossils differ from cast and trace fossils and what information can be learned from each type of fossil.
Arianna completed many Social Studies review activities using https://mrnussbaum.com/games/social-studies-games These interactive activities were all reviewing the material taught throughout the year.
Arianna and I continued to review a variety of concepts. Today, she completed a mastery challenge quiz pertaining to multiplication. Arianna solved 4-digit by 1-digit multiplication problems, wrote comparisons as numbers sentences, and multiplied by tens. Then, we focused on 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication with regrouping and subtractions facts mental minutes.
Arianna completed an IXL vocabulary lesson on finding synonyms in context. She read a Newsela article about a self-destructing painting by the artist Banksy. After recalling the sad events in yesterday's reading, we continued with 'Ember.' Today, we were presented with a new mystery and its answer all in one chapter. Arianna noted that this book is like several stories in one, because of all the unanswered questions and mysterious events.
This morning we learned about two forms of fossils: trace and cast. Arianna and I read a short passage to learn about the geological process and she demonstrated her understanding of unit vocabulary such as sediment, minerals, and decay. We also watched and discussed a short video about dinosaurs and if they are really extinct: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_RLz0whDv4
1. Arianna completed her WebQuest and slide show on Lewis and Clark and their expedition west.
2. She also completed many Social Studies review activities using https://mrnussbaum.com/games/social-studies-games
Arianna began with Mathseed's quick quizzes on 3-digit number patterns and two mental math minutes. Then, we continued to practice making equivalent fractions in order to add or subtract fractions with unlike denominators as well as to simplify fractions. Arianna applied these skills to solve fraction related word problems. Next, Arianna used online multiplication flash cards to practice facts and finished with 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication problems.
