Arianna and I went to her Dancing page to make sure that everything was in place. After a few minor tweaks the page was complete and functional. As we were making the changes I found out that Arianna was not a huge fan of the singer that she had chosen. I suggested that we should look into some of the artists that helped inspire Ariana Grande. The remaining portion of the class was used to give Arianna examples of some the musicians like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Queen.
Arianna watched the beginning of a Broadway production of Peter Pan. We continued reading a Harry Potter script. We viewed Arianna's music videos. We watched some of the scenes we have read from the Harry Potter script.
Today we continued to learn about the ancient world, with a look into some of the ancient civilizations of South America. We researched the Nazca lines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWIYb5zd6p8. These ancient shapes are most visible from high up in the air, so it is a true mystery as to why they were created by this ancient culture. We are learning about the science of archaeology through this lesson.
Arianna began with mental math minutes on addition and subtraction facts before taking quick quizzes on number patterns and 3-D shape vertices. Then, she compared fractions with amounts greater than and less than 1 as well as found equivalent fraction amounts. We finished with comparing decimals visually using place value and comparing amounts shown in different forms such as grids, fractions, and decimals. Arianna played a correlating place value decimal game, choosing the value represented in different places.
This morning we completed a mini-lesson on penguins with a short video produced by the Florida Aquarium that highlights the African black footed penguin: https://youtu.be/Ju-wRiQLvJY.
Arianna used the IXL site and BrainPop to practice forming and using contractions. After recalling what was happening when we left off reading yesterday, she finished chapter 2 and part of chapter 3 in "City of Ember." We are noticing a lack of curiosity among the citizens of Ember, except for Lina and Doon, our main characters.
This morning, Arianna practiced writing decimals as fractions and writing common fractions as decimals after making their equivalent with denominators of 10 or 100. Then, she took a quiz related to those concepts as well as writing common decimals for basic fractions and decimal place value with regrouping. A mental math minute was also completed as well as matching whole numbers to their equivalent fractions and place value with decimals.
Arianna's foot was still bothering her, so we practiced some mindfulness by watching short videos about emotional intelligence/moods, and drawing/coloring peacefully.
