chocolate fudge brownie with chocolate chunks
Lesson Outline
Today Analise made chocolate fudge brownies with chocolate chunks in them. She measured and mixed all of the ingredients together into a large bowl. Then she helped pour the mixture into the greased pan. We baked the brownies for 28 minutes and let them cool. Analise took the finished brownies around to each child's room to share them. They were fudgy and chewy and everyone loved them.

Writing 1-100
Lesson Outline
Analise worked on writing the numbers 1-100. She had to fill all of the numbers into a blank chart. It took her a little while to finish but she was able to complete it. She said, "See, I told you I could count to one hundred." I explained that we had to be sure that she could write the numbers, too. We also worked on finding missing puzzle pieces with a Geo Safari computer made by National Geographic. This game showed a picture with missing pieces and Analise had to type in the number that correlated with the piece.

Lesson Outline
Au Claire de la Lune - She found middle C right away and without my help! Bravo!! She's come a long way on this piece!
Amazing Grace - a new piano piece today! We're learning the basics of this melody. There is more switching between right hand and left hand in this song. This was a hefty challenge today and so I circled the left hand notes in blue marker and the right hand notes in pink marker. Then I drew a blue dot on her left hand, a pink dot on her right hand. This helped her greatly!

Animals
Lesson Outline
"Sunny," our sunflower was finally big enough to plant. Analise and I went outside and found a spot to plant him. We dug a hole and filled it with good potting soil. Then we carefully put him in the ground. Analise had fun watering him with the hose. Now that he is planted outside we hope he will grow quickly. Our next focus in science will be animals and their environments. To start, Analise wanted to learn about ocean animals. We began reading Animals of the Ocean by Stephan Savage. Over the next week we will spend a lot of time learning about the animals of Analise's choice.

Numbers 1-100 / Longer, Shorter
Lesson Outline
Analise worked on writing the numbers 1-100 today. She had a number chart with half of the numbers not printed. She had to count and fill in the blanks. We pretended to be detectives on the hunt for the missing numbers. Once that was finished, she started another chart with no given numbers. Analise did a great job and we will finish up tomorrow. We also worked on the concept of longer and shorter. We worked on a couple worksheets in which Analise had to compare the pictures to see which item was longer or shorter. This concept is the foundation of measurement which we will work more in depth on in the next week.

pink Flamingo
Lesson Outline
Analise made her own bracelets in arts and crafts today. She used different shapes and shades of pink beads to make a pattern that she liked. Using stretch cord, she strung the beads one by one. This activity is very good for fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. The amount of patience Analise displayed was amazing. She was able to make 3 bracelets and added charms with her birthstone color and the letter A for her name. She was very proud of her work and very excited to take them home today.

3-D Shapes
Lesson Outline
Today, we finished up our lesson on shapes. We focused on 3-D shapes and how they are different from the 2-D flat shapes that we went over on Friday. We discussed how 3D shapes can be hollow or filled which means they have space that can be filled. Analise cut and pasted a flap book with a cube (a shape like a square with 6 equal sides) , sphere (a shape like a ball), cylinder (a shape with two equal circular faces and one curved surface), cone (a shape with a circular base and an end that narrows to a point), and rectangular prism (a shape like a rectangle but with 2 ends and 4 sides). She matched up real world shapes and pasted them under the 3-D shapes. She had fun coloring her book and putting it with her 2-D shape book.

Senses
Lesson Outline
We finished up our lesson on senses today with the sense of hearing. We read The Sense of Hearing by Mari Schuh. This book discussed the 3 main parts of the ear, how sound moves through the air as sound waves, and the parts of the ear. Analise then listened to sounds and had to guess or hypothesize what they were. She heard the sound of a train, bird, monkey, baby crying, drinking water, sneezing, door opening and closing, scissors cutting, brushing teeth, and a guitar. She was able to guess all the sounds correctly and was very proud of herself for doing so.
