How does an energy efficient hot water heater work? How is copper tubing sweat soldered together? How is radiant heat installed? What does a electrical inspector look for? What does window replacement look like? What does the term "Salt Box," mean in homes built in the 1690's?
Hunter will be walked through the process of creating a slider for his website's home page. We will add photos, welcome text and a "Learn More" button that will be linked in a later session.
Hunter will create the about page that will feature an image that represents the company that is being featured on his website, an image of himself, along with the biography/contact information that he created in a session class.
Hunter and I watched excellent videos today with grammar lessons - adjective order, commas and coordinating adjectives, intensifiers and adverbs, comparatives and superlatives. After each, he completed practice exercises. He did a great job with these. We learned about DOSASCOMP - how to order adjectives and when to use commas. I ordered a new "Best Grammar Workbook Ever." This contains good exercises for him to practice. We read together in our second session. Almost finished!
Hunter will wrap up the typing of his Service and About page information. Hunter will begin creating the home page for his new website. He will go to Pexels.com, a royalty-free website that allows you to download stock images for free. Hunter will find 4 to 5 images that represent the services that his website will offer. He will upload and use the images to create a slider for the website.
Hunter will use the written drafts, that he wrote for his About and Services, to type up within Microsoft Word. Here he will be able to read what he wrote, make sure there are no grammatical errors, and properly prep his information to be used on his website.
We spent today's session having Hunter correct his work on the previous day's worksheet. He did much better this time, and will be able to gain some points back.
We were busy today! First, I had Hunter do some exponent questions online. He did well on the questions. Then, I had Hunter complete 38 questions that involved simplifying rational exponents. He got 24 of them correct, for a 63%. I will have him do corrections tomorrow. Sometimes Hunter is perfectly fine and able to get the correct answers, and other times he seems to forget the rules he has learned.
I found a Math Review for Plumbing Apprentices. Most of the questions on the review are very basic and Hunter should be capable of completing them. I had him work on the first page of it.
We then took some time to talk about budgets and housing costs, to help give Hunter an idea of what salaries and working hours he needs to think about to support himself in the future.
Hunter is still working on his practice with exponents. Today I had him do corrections on exercises. This particular topic takes a lot of practice. He is getting better at the material. We also played an exponent card game. We both drew 2 cards, and used one card as the "base", and the other as the "exponent". We raced each other to see who could compute their exponent the fastest. Hunter really plugs along when he does his computations!
Hunter and I will finish up the About and Services pages for his website. He will present me the written pages so that I can proofread them and have them ready for the next class.
Hunter is learning about the Katz v. United States Supreme Court case, which addressed whether or not "bugging" a conversation from a local pay phone was an "unreasonable" search and seizure. He will also be looking at the New Jersey v. TLO case, that stated students possess a limited 4th Amendment right in schools.
