Hunter will be introduced to Marcus Lemonis and The Profit. I will have Hunter watch the first half of a video about a tiny house ceo, that created a great product but ended up needing Marcus Lemonis to step in and save his business. We will complete the video in the next session and Hunter will explain the successes and pitfalls and was the deal that the business made right or wrong and why.
I continued working with Hunter out of the Algebra 1 book (section 10-2). I showed him several examples of simplifying radicals that are being multiplied together, or are part of fractions. We cannot leave a radical sign in the denominator, so we must rationalize the denominator. I explained to him how to do that, and showed him examples. His assignment was p.623 (11-47 odd). He completed 11-27 odd, and I had to help him correct some of them. When Hunter works with me and I guide him, he does much better.

Lesson Comments
Hunter was slow moving today, as you noticed. He didn't really have a bad/negative attitude, but he was on the verge of sleep. Before we came out of his class to work in the lobby, he said "I have to stand up and move around or I am going to die." I joked with him that I was glad I could bring him close to death with my class. He told me that it wasn't me - it was just school. I think he is more than ready to be done with all of this!
Hunter had been working on a descriptive essay about Costa Rica with Miss Kelli. She had recommended adding significant descriptive language and making edits . Apparently, Hunter was unenthusiastic about that prospect.
As such, today we read the opening paragraphs of Steinbeck's novella,The Pearl, which contains an excellent example of descriptive language. We discussed the imagery and the use of descriptive language in the passage. We then composed a sensory poem. In this exercise, the student picks a series of animate or inanimate objects that he feels resemble him in some way ( I am a ....)and then for each object lists a series of descriptive words.
Here is what we ended up with:( The subjects and adjectives selected were Hunter's)
I am a sloth
strong, lazy, and sleepy.
I am a teddy bear,
soft,scary ,but sweet.
I am a tree
tall, sharing, still.
I am a kite,
soaring in the wind.
Assignment
Hunter needs to narrow the focus of his descriptive essay. I suggested he bring in a photo of Costa Rica that we can use as the subject of his essay.
During our first session, Hunter and I talked about purchasing health insurance, and we looked at a website that showed example plans. I explained to him what a copay is, and how the billing process works. We looked at plans that range from $150 to $300 a month, and talked about how that could fit into his budget.
We then looked at the Pythagorean Theorem for right triangles. It says that the hypotenuse squared is equal to the sum of the legs squared. Hunter used the formula to work (7-35 odd) on p. 617. He understood the concepts and got most of the exercises correct.
Hunter will create the main services page, a page that will act as a hub for all of the work that his company can provide to a potential customer. Hunter will go to Pexels.com to find stock photos that reflect particular services. Hunter will place all pictures and text for the page. Lastly, we will go over creating, adding, and placing webpage template areas. He will see how the tool helps speed up production/creation.

Hunter and I watched several sessions of Khan Academy on Rational Exponents and Radicals. He did select problems from the book on p. 450 (17-25), as well as on the Khan Academy practice site. He is understanding more of how to work out the negative and fractional exponents.
