Parallel Lines cut by a Transversal
Lesson Outline
I introduced the concept of Lines cut by a transversal, and the types of angles that are formed. We then drew parallel lines, cut them by a transversal, and measured the resulting angles. I taught Hunter about the relationships between the different angles. We then used the lesson to complete an activity where he had to name the relationships between different angles, and find their measurements. He completed an online quiz on the material. I had him start an Algebra EOC practice test.

Solving Rational Equations
Lesson Outline
Hunter and I discussed a bit of practical math - how much annual salary might a family of 4 need to live "comfortably" in Jupiter, FL. He estimated about $70k. We related annual salaries to baseball contracts, as well, and discussed how much a pro athlete should live on a year if his only guaranteed lifetime income was from his current contract.
We then moved to the Algebra 2 book. I introduced how to solve rational equations by cross multiplying, getting the resulting equation in standard form, and solving for x by factoring and using the zero product property. We had to check for extraneous solutions, which are solutions that would make the denominator of the original equation equal to zero. Finally, we watched 2 Khan Academy videos about equivalent exponential expressions, and tried to work some exercises. They were challenging! About that time, Lance contacted Hunter regarding his car license plate, so I helped Hunter with the paperwork he'll need.

Rational Expressions and Congruent Triangles
Lesson Outline
Hunter completed the "Multiplying & Dividing Rational Expressions" exercise sheet. He remembered how to do the factoring. We looked at Khan Academy's exercises on congruent triangles. He learned that you can prove triangle congruency with SSS, SAS, and ASA. We reviewed the exercises where he did not get all of them correct.

Of Mice and Men
Lesson Outline
Hunter and I finished watching the movie "Of Mice an Men" from 1934. The movie was in black and white, the original version. We stopped to discuss and analyze along the way. Hunter was very happy that he accomplished reading a classic and that he read the book first before watching the movie. We discussed the differences between the movie and the book, although the movie remained fairly true to the book.
