Hunter continues his search for work. Today we looked at the Palm Beach Post Classified section. Still nothing available that does not require a HS degree, except dishwashers and Publix bag boys. We also viewed a short video on what a finish carpenter does. Good session.
Hunter and I spent the hour discussing and answering questions related to "The Book Thief". He has read up to page 153. We discussed the writing assignment in which he is supposed to choose a quote from each section and write why he chose it. Today, I gave him a chart to track and describe characters. We also answered guided questions following the reading up the point where he has stopped.

It is difficult to accomplish anything in the class because Hunter does not do assignments and cannot answer any discussion questions related to the reading. I will try reading in class with him next time and assigning more concrete homeword, which I am doubtful he will do.
This morning we completed the data entry for our stock portfolio using the template that is formatted on excel. We researched the current per share data on each of our five companies and added them to the spreadsheet which automatically computed the net value of our portfolio. We will be updating this portfolio each time we meet. We took a few moments to research the stock price history of Intrexon since it was obvious that the company's per share price has dropped significantly over the course of the last two to three years and we need to determine why this happened. Hunter is working on his personal financial spreadsheet which we will transfer onto an excel worksheet at our next meeting.
Application of the D, Cadd9, and G chords: progression to Sweet Home Alabama.
Begin learning chords in the key of C: C major, A minor, F major and G major.
Hunter had a good session and was showing improvement in his strumming rhythms, and his chord changes were faster.
Assignment
Practice Sweet Home Alabama and new chords in the key of C
I asked Hunter, "Would you like to find a part time job?" When he replied, "Yes", we spent the session looking for part-time work. Unfortunately, most all jobs require H.S. or equivalent. The only exception was dishwasher. Hunter did register himself on the Indeed website and is already receiving e-mails for jobs. Good session.
This afternoon we are going to construct our stock portfolio using an Excel spreadsheet. Hunter has indicated that he has had some instruction on how to set up the worksheet and he will be asked to research some basic stock pricing information and load this data into his portfolio. I have provided him with a template that he can use which will automatically adjust for daily changes in the individual stock prices and subsequently the overall value of his portfolio.
Happy Birthday to Hunter!
Hunter did not bring in his homework from last night, or his book. Rather than move on to a new lesson, I had him do a worksheet on the lesson from yesterday. It consisted of adding and subtracting matrices, as well as solving matrix equations. He understands how to do it, and even impressed me with a quick analysis of 3/5 equalling 60%.
We can add and subtract matrices that are the same size. We do this simply by adding the elements that are in the same location. Hunter worked problems that involved adding and subtracting matrices. I also taught him how to solve equations with matrices to find the unknown matrix. He caught onto the concept fairly easily. His homework assignment is p. 178 (2-17)
Today we review how to select the proper shank and thread holes for a wood screw. Two pieces of 1/2 " plywood are assembled to test the holding power. Hunter correctly selects proper diameter drill bits and using screw gun attaches the wood pieces together. They hold very well considering the choice of plywood over a piece of hard wood. Good session. Happy 18th birthday, Hunter!!!!!
