Hunter continues his dream home working drawings by completing his right side elevation. He shows all windows and garage door by projecting off the right side of his floor plan. Lastly, Hunter completes the roof line. Good session.
Today Hunter continued pre-reading activities related to "The Book Thief". We reviewed vocabulary and discussed the power of words by use of figurative language - similes, metaphors, hyperboles, personification, otamonapeia, alliteration, pun, and irony. We watched a YouTube video called Flocabulary that reviewed these by way of rap music and by example. Hunter started the Anticipation Guide and answered questions as to what he predicted might be discussed in the book. We learned how to identify and analyze tone and mood of the author. In the second hour, Hunter worked on typing edits to the rough draft of his essay. We discussed HOMEWORK for the weekend. He will add more to his essay to work towards a finished product in one week. He will also make an effort to start reading "The Book Thief" at home this weekend and be ready to discuss in class. Hunter asked a great question in our last class when we discussed the word "genocide" - whether it can happen again and/or be prevented. I printed the pyramid of hate that is produced by the Anti-Defamation League and we discussed how genocide can happen if the smaller acts are not prevented.

Lesson Comments
Hunter wants me to contact JHS about prom tickets (not an enrolled student but team member?). He would like to enroll next semester for Math credit. ? He had a conversation with Lance about post high school. Plan is vocational school - plumbing or electrician. He said he would take SAT, but not necessary. ?
Hunter had the best day ever! We did mixed review on graphing inequalities, writing equations of lines given a point and slope, and solving equations. He remembered how to do the Algebraic operations! He was engaged and did well!
Hunter continues his front elevation by projecting down from the floor plan. He adds his front bedroom and window to this elevation. Next, the two gables are drawn with the roof line. Hunter shows a good working knowledge of both the floor plan and how elevations are projected down from them. Lastly, he assists in helping a new student mount his whiteboard using special mounting mollies.
Hunter continued with econlowdown.org lessons today, re-watching College 101 and completing the Quiz to understand repayment of student loan at 5% and reading about automatic electronic transfers, debit cards, and overdraft fees. He answered questions and took the Quiz. He learned about the college scorecard and the Bureau of Labor and Statistics.
Chords in the key of G, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Rhythm to Sweet Home Alabama, and strumming rhythms.
Lesson Outline
Review chords in the key of G.
Use chords D, Cadd9, and G to strum the rhythm to Sweet Home Alabama.
Review single note melody to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Practice adding up strokes to strum rhythms.
Hunter did a great job. All of his single notes and chords are sounding very good. I am seeing lots of improvement.
Assignment
Practice all chords, strum patterns, and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
3-1 Classifying Systems as Independent, Dependent, or Inconsistent
Lesson Outline
Today we looked at systems of equations from an algebraic perspective. I taught Hunter that parallel lines have no solution and are Inconsistent. Equations whose graph are the same line have all the same solutions, and are Dependent. And equations with one solution are Independent. We can determine how to classify the systems of equations by first looking at the equations' slopes, then their y-intercepts. Hunter worked through p, 121 (13-23 odd). He was able to follow the procedures well.
We corrected Hunter's homework, as he graphed the lines, rather than absolute value. We moved to Graphing Systems of Equations. For this, Hunter just has to graph 2 equations and see where they intersect. The intersection is the solution to the system of equations. I can see Hunter's algebraic skills improving! We did p. 120 (1, 3, 5, 7)
We're continuing graphing by moving into graphing Inequalities. Hunter knows how to change equations into Slope-Intercept Form. Sometimes he gets tripped up on the negatives. He can then graph the y-intercept and use the slope to find more points on the line. I taught him today that once he graphs the line, he determines if it is dotted or solid, then shades one side of it based on testing the origin in the equation. In class, he did p. 104 (1-13 odd). Homework is #14 & 15
First objective today was to begin with clean equipment. Hunter takes the time, using windex, to clean the drafting table and all triangles. Next, a few modifications are made to floor plan. The front elevation is begun by projecting down from the floor plan. Hunter decides to go with a 10' ceiling. The ground line, garage wall, window, and front door are carefully illustrated on front elevation. Good session.
