Drilling Larger Holes
Lesson Outline
Hunter learns the safe correct use of spade bits. These are larger drilled holes in wood up to 1 1/2" in diameter. He also continues transferring his scale cut-out rooms to his master floor plan. Lastly a quick trip under the hood of his truck to double check the transmission fluid. It turns out to be at the correct level. Finally, the four tires are checked for proper pressure. Good session.

2-6 Families of Functions
Lesson Outline
I substituted for Economics today, which gave Hunter and I an opportunity to continue Families of Functions. We used the graphing calculator to identify how y=IxI changes with y=Ix+hI +c. Hunter is able to identify when the graph of these absolute value functions moves up, down, left, and right.
We also reviewed Direct Variation.
He has no homework tonight, but I will give him a quiz tomorrow on the material we have covered this week.

2-6 Families of Functions
Lesson Outline
Hunter did not do his homework last night (he left his book at school), so I had him work on the rest of it in class (p. 90: 9-17 odd). Using the graphing calculator, we moved into Families of Function. Hunter is starting to identify how different numbers change the graphs from their original parent function.

2-5 Absolute Value Functions and Graphs
Lesson Outline
Today we learned about graphing absolute value equations of the form y=I mx+b I + c. I taught Hunter to first find and graph the vertex ( -b/m, c). From there, we choose x values around the vertex, plug them into a chart, and find more points. The points are then graphed to form a v. We then used the graphing calculator to graph the equations. Hunter did a great job making conjectures about how variations in b and c affect the graph. Assignment p. 90 (1-17 odd). We did most in class - he has about 5 to finish for homework.

Essay Writing Preparation
Lesson Outline
I looked over essay preparation with Hunter this morning. It was not acceptable in many ways, all of which I discussed with him. We went over the materials I gave him to take home and I suggested many ways to re-approach the essay and start again. He needs to make an effort to construct an essay and to handwrite the essay in an organized and legible way. If this still does not happen for our next class, we will do it in class from the beginning together. We finished reading Mark Twain's satire "Advice to Youth", defining terms from context clues, and pulling out meaning from satire and irony. We reviewed all vocabulary cards for repeat Quiz on Tuesday. HOMEWORK: (repeated) Begin writing essay, 3 paragraphs, if not more, support, thesis statement, etc., complete sentences.

Inspiration / "Just Do It"
Lesson Outline
Hunter and I discussed the importance of possibilities. We watched a video of a young boy "Americana" who dared to do something different and the results were astounding. He did what others have done before him and who are older than him. He advances through a panel of judges to be recognized as AWESOME. I was trying to teach Hunter that NO ONE should tell him he can't do something. He is a strong individual with much to give and do in this world.
