Hunter made new vocabulary cards for five new words this week - disposition, callow, callous, impervious, and overzealous. We discussed FANBOYS - conjunctions or connectors to clauses and their use on the SAT. Hunter practiced vocabulary practice from Prentice Hall workbook with prefixes for "not" and completed sentences using these newly-formed words. I gave him a quick spelling challenge with words from the Master Spelling workbook.

Triangular Peg Game
Lesson Outline
Hunter makes a second cut of his peg game using "C" Clamps and cross cut saw. He then experiments with several files in order to get saw marks removed. Lastly, he uses the following progression of sandpaper grits to finish the smoothing process; 60, 100, and 220. Excellent session.

We began watching "Master and Commander. The Far Side of the World." Explained the meaning of "HMS" (His/Her Majesty's Ship'), weevils in Royal Navy Hardtack (bread-the lesser of two weevils) and RN sailors forelock tugging, as a precursor to today's salute.

Cutting, Filing, and Sanding
Lesson Outline
Hunter continues work on his triangular peg game. He decides to cut the wood into a triangle shape. He then does a masterful job of filing and sanding the grain of this recent cut. The tape measure is given a second look. Hunter measures several things, including his height. (5-ll 3/4" rounded to 6' even. A good session.
