In today's session Bobby and I completed an online virtual dissection of a frog. This let us compare the similarities of structures and look at the differences in organization.
Andrew and I began our session with an 8th grade reading focusing on gravity, "Our Changing Solar System" with vocabulary such as collide, interplay, and magnetic. We then watched a 'Generation Genius' video, "Gravitational Forces". This activity expanded Andrew's knowledge when experimenting with foam airplanes, observing that forces (thrust, lift, drag, gravity) affect an airplane's flight. Gravity pulls the airplane toward Earth.

I was a substitute for Andrew's class today. I decided to extend Andrew's knowledge on gravity being that he has been experimenting with foam airplanes with Mr. Jordan.
Dutch and I began our session with a discussion about fishing. I showed him pictures of fish that I and some friends caught. He identified all of the fish correctly, of course. He even tried identifying the boat correctly. We then watched a 'Generation Genius' video, "Predicting Natural Disasters". Dutch then questioned if anyone has ever gone through a water spout directly and what would occur if someone did. We discovered that a fisherman in the Florida Keys went directly through a waterspout. We watched the video of it. We observed that the men were not scared at all and in fact, were brave and excited. We then completed a 'Read Works' reading, "Preparing for a Disaster". We ended our session with watching tornado hunters.

I was a substitute for Teresa. I reviewed Teresa's session summaries before entering the session with Dutch to find out what topic they were covering in science. They have been discussing earthquakes.
Mercer went on a nature walk with a few of his schoolmates to look for and identify native and invasive species of reptiles. He was very good at spotting various reptiles.
Design, build, and test, Newton's first law of motion
Lesson Outline
Kellan and I began our session with watching a 'Generation Genius' video, introducing the egg drop challenge. We then watched a video observing the experiment being done. We then began hypothesizing. Kellan illustrated three different models - a balloon, a box with inserts, and a tupperware with cotton balls. Kellan began hypothesizing that an egg in a blown-up ballon would work best and wrote his hypothesis on his lab sheet. Unfortunately, the egg would not fit inside the balloon and therefore, Kellan's hypothesis was incorrect. I explained to Kellan that being wrong is apart of the experiment. It is a part of being a scientist! The model that was successful was the tupperware filled with cotton balls. This experiment allowed Kellan to observe Newton's first law of motion and he was able to design, build, and test a model.
In today's session Cabo and I discussed the morphological differences of lizard and snake species. This included extra structures that some species evolve to better hide themselves.
Kellan and I began our session with discussing his new comic book. We then began a science lesson on the topic - the sun, the moon, and the stars change position in the sky in ways that are fun to watch and predict. Kellan made a prediction to the question, how could the statue's shadow move? He stated that if we move the statue ourselves, it will move. By completing this activity ourself, using a giraffe statue, tape, paper, and pencil; Kellan learned that the sun moves across the sky. Kellan traced the statue and then twenty minutes later, we observed the statue, noticing that the shadow moved.
Kip and I spent our session with Earth Day activities. We began with a reading, "Reducing Our Impact on Earth". We then watched a 'Generation Genius' video, "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle".
