Matthew began building a motorized maze. He practiced reading and following instructions and diagrams. He practiced wiring and checking that the wiring is correct.
Matthew made a cartesian diver. He experimented with how increasing water pressure inside a dropper causes the dropper to dive down into the bottom of the water bottle, and when you release pressure, it ascends. He compared how increasing the pressure in the diver and the bottle rocket racer caused them to change position.
Matthew experimented with iron filings and magnets to see a magnetic field. He explored how the magnet will attract the iron filings even through water. He turned a balloon into a magnet by charging it by rubbing it with his hair and sticking it to the wall. He learned that electrons create magnetic fields.
Aiden watched an Amoeba Sisters video on mitosis and took notes. He learned PMAT: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase. He learned interphase. He drew diagrams.
I subbed for Matthew's class today. He played the air cannon game he created. He used the air cannon to shoot off hanging tags from a grid. He used a smoke cone to make smoke rings with his air cannon. He put a marshmallow in a vacuum chamber to show how decreased air pressure makes the marshmallow bigger.
