Today's lesson was to listen to the song, "How Far I"ll Go",from the Disney movie "Moana." While we listen she can also draw an illustration for the song to represent her feelings.
Gracyn's lesson consisted of two-dimensional shapes and their attributes. Triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, and hexagon were the shapes focused on. Gracyn counted the sides and vertices of two-dimensional shapes to determine the name of the shape. Many of the shapes were not familiar and Gracyn used a reference sheet to help her determine the name once the sides and vertices were counted.
In this lesson, Gracyn and I watched the Beginners Bible Miracles of Jesus video. It covered the 7 signs from the book of John. We discussed her favorite miracle (walking on water). We also discussed the lesson from each of the miracles, including the difference between Lazarus' resuscitation - to die again and Jesus' resurrection - to never die again. I was pleased that she understood this concept and knows that those who believe in Jesus will die once but then have eternal life.
Gracyn and I completed our book 'Just Grace and the Trouble With Cupcakes'. We worked on words with the cvce spelling patterns. She read another level K nonfiction book on Raz and completed 8 of the 12 comprehension questions. We also worked on multiple meaning words that were imbedded in our reading.
We worked on addition and subtraction practice problems, then she received an introduction to what a perimeter is and how to find it for different 2-D shapes.
Gracyn continued her lesson on sea turtles today. She wrote down three facts she learned about sea turtles and did a sea turtle craft where she made three turtles out of construction paper and wrote a turtle fact on each of the turtle's backs.
Gracyn began the geometry and fraction concepts unit today. We began with a review of the three-dimensional shapes and examples of real world objects. Then, we described the attributes of the three-dimensional shapes. The faces, edges, and vertices of each shape were counted and then compared to the other shapes. Finally, Gracyn used dot paper to practice drawing a cube and rectangular prism.
