Gracyn and I Skyped together. We began chapter 9 which covers the concept of measurement. We discussed the vocabulary words bigger, smaller, longer, and shorter. Then, Gracyn went on a math scavenger hunt in her bedroom. She searched for objects with certain lengths, shapes, amounts, and patterns. She used her ruler to measure different objects and then compared the lengths. Finally, she practiced writing the numbers and number words 1-10.
In today's lesson by Skype, Gracyn practiced her sight words and read "Katy Woo and the Class Pet". Our strategy focus was on looking for clues in the text and illustrations, along with predicting outcomes. Gracyn did a great job of making predictions and finding clues that foreshadow events.
Gracyn and I continued our literacy study of "Dinosaurs Before Dark" by Mary Pope Osborne. We read chapter 2, in which a Pteranodon flies by the treehouse window after Jack and Annie find a book about dinosaurs. Gracyn answered all 4 follow-up comprehension components accurately. We discussed ways to write these answers in complete sentences. Next, we practiced making words in the
-an family (can, man, fan, van). Finally, Gracyn practiced reading and writing some of her tricky Pre-Primer Dolch sight words.
Today Graycn continued her lesson on planets. She drew each planet in order from the sun and we looked up facts about each planet. After she was finished with her drawings, she labeled each planet.
Gracyn and I did class via skype today. We did a couple songs to warm up and then did some stretching and strength work. We did our "Gymnastics ABC's" and practiced a few of her skills that don't take up too much room. She showed me a couple of her new leotards. We had fun!
Today, Gracyn and I Skyped together. We reviewed doubles facts, focusing on the numbers 6, 7, 8, and 9, which have not been memorized at this point. We discussed 20 different addition and subtraction vocabulary words that are used in word problems. I gave Gracyn a word and she told me if it correlated to addition or subtraction. Then, we worked on the concept of ten more and ten less. Finally, Gracyn completed a few subtraction problems.
Gracyn and I had class via Skype today. We reviewed for the Quiz at the end of the week - geography, concepts, vocabulary. We watched a short video about Christopher Columbus on BrainPop and on Studies Weekly. We continued to read about maps, continents, Presidents and patriots. Gracyn was able to earn enough points to buy things. She learned that Florida is a peninsula.
