design fundamentals. Today was a "Skype" day with Gracyn. We did two drawings. The first one was to show the element of "radial" design. She drew a picture of a snail. The second was the element of "symmetry". She did a picture of a mask. She the used colors to finish both drawings.

Science:
Plants and cetaceans -
Gracyn and I examined the beans we placed in the window, and discovered that some had sprouted roots. We planted one in a paper cup, and placed the others on a new wet paper towel in the window. We will plant them with soil soon. We then changed subjects and had a talk about dolphins. We explored the sounds that dolphins make, and I explained that some of the sounds they make are clicks, which they use in place of eyesight, to see. The other sounds are whistles, which they use to communicate with each other. We watch a short video of dolphin making sounds. We also explored who were better surfers, people or dolphins.
Gracyn has worked very hard this week and has enjoyed the subject matter. She comprehends all of the information taught from the chapter and took the Chapter 6 test. She did a great job answering all of the questions correctly. Gracyn also worked on a word problem worksheet that correlated to this week's lesson of tens and ones place value and numbers to 120. For practice, she finished with writing the number words one through ten, which she is trying to memorize.
Gracyn worked really hard today, I could tell she was feeling a lot better! We warmed up and stretched. We then spent quite a bit of time working on her beam skills, including cartwheels today. We did a couple mini beam routines, consisting of putting 5-6 skills together. We then worked on her walkovers on the new mats. I can see her getting stronger!
Gracyn and I played Scrabble Junior. Using colorful pictures we matched the letter tiles to the words and grid. I also used the tiles for some math problems.
Today we finished our Junie B. book and made text to text and text to self connections. She read a Raz-Kids story titled "Ava is a Vegan" for her shared/guided reading story. Our strategy lesson was on using context clues/meaning to determine unknown words in text. She read her word wall and we added the words 'could' and 'walk' to her list. Gracyn chose to write about God today. She planned what she would write and began her page.
Graycn began a lesson on planets today. She made a flip book where she colored each planet and read a fact about each one. She learned a mnemonic device (My Very Excited Mother Just Served Us Nachos) for remembering all the planets in order from the sun. She made a flip chart from the mnemonic where the key words are on the outside and the planets are underneath. When she lifts the flap, she can read the name and see a picture of the planet.
