Wilson Assessment of Decoding and Encodingn (WADE)
Lesson Outline
The session today involved the word reading (real and nonsense words) part of the WADE. The second part of the WADE that was administered today was the spelling and sentence dictation aspect of this instrument.
Upon completion of the WADE, digraphs were reviewed with Samantha.
The objective today was to determine the enthusiasms of Samantha that can be used as a lens through which to focus our study of Florida history. It seems that drama, dance and visual art would all be appealing.
Warrior poses (Veteran's Day); Warm ups; candlestick pose; goal setting. Sam and I discussed goals for yoga class which included: focus, breathing, calming, acrobatics, creative yoga (theme yoga) and active (dance) movements. We practiced Warrior poses 1, 2 and 3, after our warm-up routine. We worked on trying to stay on the mat and keeping our focus. Sam is hoping we can do a yoga performance for the school during the holidays.
The session began with a game that included rounding, place value, addition and subtraction. The review continued with both multiplication and division. Samantha then took a chapter test on previously reviewed material and concepts.
Sam started class checking her PBDA homework page to see where her class is currently in Hoot, we could not tell and she said she doesn't remember the beginning so we started today at chapter 1. We team-read chapter 1, she read 2 pages then I read 2 and so on, and I made notes while she read. She is nearly quite fluent at this level (760 Lexile) and struggled with only 1-3 words per page (examples: squinting, wiry) and was able to read fluently through words such as incredibly and impatiently. She changes tone to show inflection for dialogue. Great job Sam. We stopped to check for clarity of new concepts and summarize during and at the end of chapter. During oral reading today Sam recorded us in Japanese in her iPad, this seemed to keep her much more motivated to read aloud and she was impressed with the end result: a notepad of our Japanese. :) At the close of class, we added 5 sight spelling words to make her spelling list 12. She added them to her notepad in her iPad.
