Max continued working on the poetry assessment exercise forwarded from his London school. As the assessment emphasized the need to cite evidence and quotes , after Max drafted initial responses, we discussed how to elaborate on his answers by adding textual support that addresses ,"How or In what way?". I then assisted Max in locating specific examples to support his topic sentences .We will complete the exercise tomorrow.

Lesson Outline
In preparation for Max completing a poetry assessment , I placed on the board and discussed the terms: rhyme ,rhythm, alliteration, and imagery as techniques for the creation of meaning. I further noted the importance of noting the use of punctuation. We then looked at the first lines of the assigned poem, and Max properly noted that the entire poem was written in rhyming couplets. After Max read the remainder of the poem ,he worked on the assessment questions . Where he had some difficulty , we together worked through some abstract metaphors . Max will complete his draft answers tomorrow which we will review before he hands in his poetry assessment.

Max learned that aerobic respiration is a set of metabolic reactions that take place in the presence of oxygen, occurring in a cell to convert chemical energy into ATPs.
• Aerobic respiration takes place in all plants, animals, birds, and humans.
• It is the preferred method of degradation of pyruvate after glycolysis where the pyruvate then enters the mitochondria to be fully oxidized during the Kreb’s cycle.
• The process of aerobic respiration is utilized for the oxidation of carbohydrates, but products from fats and proteins are also used as reactants.
• Carbon dioxide gas and water are the two products of aerobic respiration along with the energy that is used to add a third phosphate group to ADP and form ATP.
• Aerobic respiration results in complete oxidation of carbohydrate molecules which take place in the mitochondria of eukaryotic cells as the enzymes for the process are present there.
Then he learned anaerobic respiration is a process of cellular respiration where the high energy electron acceptor is neither oxygen nor pyruvate derivatives.
• Anaerobic respiration takes place in many environments like freshwater, soil, deep-sea surfaces.
• Anaerobic respiration and fermentation, both take place in the cytoplasm of the prokaryotic cell.
• Anaerobic respiration and fermentation processes take place in the muscle cells during immediate contraction and relaxation.
• Fermentation results in a total gain of only two ATPs per glucose molecule.

Alternate Video
Lesson Outline
For Max's enrichment session today, we messaged his science teacher regarding some videos that we have not been able to access up to this point in our class.

The teacher gave us an alternate video to view. We watched it together and then commented about the video to the teacher so that he would know that we had watched the entire video.

We then messaged the Computer Teacher regarding a missing link to an assignment.

We finished the class by discussing waves, finance, and geography.

Max and I worked on his Spanish assignments. This was a big win for us because they are assignments to which Max had to request access from his teacher.

We worked on two separate quizlets. Max did a great job of getting the vocabulary work done.

We then worked on a PowerPoint assignment on Music given by the teacher.

I tried to follow Max’s natural process to see what is working well for him and what we can improve.

He struggled with some of the vocabulary from prior sessions, so we made physical notecards today to help him succeed.

Lesson Outline
We verified that Max’s school from England sent his assignments over to him.

He and I worked together to prepare for his call with his homeroom teacher. We identified several key talking points to discuss. He wrote the points down so as to organize his thoughts for the conversation.

We then attempted to complete a Geography assignment, but received an error message (your session has timed out).

As an alternative, Max thought about WWII. We looked at key dates from the start and end of both World Wars. We then discussed the Roaring 20’s, the stock market crash, and the deep debt from which countries suffered in wake of the war.

Spanish: Applying the Vocabulary from Class
Lesson Outline
Max was guided through some online assignments posted by his school in England. We had to improvise a small amount for one of the exercises since his teacher in England would have read a script to him to which we did not have access. However, I was able to give him an equivalent verbal delivery.

After completing the Spanish assignments, we listened to a song in Spanish and translated it as an enrichment activity.

Macbeth
Lesson Outline
Max's London school forwarded an assignment requiring a detailed examination of I(iii),the scene where the witches prophesize that Macbeth will be King but that Banquo's descendants shall be kings thereafter. We re-read the scene and discussed the dramatic function of the witches and analyzed the different reactions of Banquo and Macbeth to the prophesy. We traced how Macbeth's initial amazement at the news later degenerates into pure lust for power and murder. Last, we answered detailed comprehension questions . I assisted Max in locating answers within the text.
