On line with Bobby. Graded exam from yesterday showed only 5 out of 20 questions answered correctly
Review functional units and nomenclature of organic alcohols and acids.
Outline how an ester is formed from the reactions between an alcohol and an acid.
Discuss the fragrances of esters, and how they are used in perfumes, cosmetics, and as food fragrances for enhancement.
View the lab procedure used to synthesize an ester.
In today's class, Andrew continued working on his superhero project based off of an element of his choice from the periodic table. Andrew researched some topics on the element, including the element's various properties. Andrew then incorporated these properties into his superhero.
Test covering organic chemistry principles.
When finished, examine the conversion of an alcohol into an acid.
Use ethyl alcohol converting into acetic acid as the example
During today's classes, we learned to distinguish between a quantity, a unit, and a measurement standard. We learned to name and use SI units for length, mass, time, volume, and density. We also performed density calculations and started to work on conversion factors.
In today's class, Andrew worked on an assignment where he researched an element of his choice and created a storyline and hero from it. Andrew was able to draw and get creative in his incorporation of the element into his superhero.

Review alkane names and the functional group which renders an alkane an alcohol.
Discuss the classical Arrhenius chemical definition of an acid, a compound which will dissociate into hydrogen ions.
Review first 5 alkane compounds.
Draw the structural formula for the carboxyl group, COOH, which gives a hydrocarbon acidic properties.
Outline the nomenclature steps.
Sketch the first 3 acids in the alkane series, methanoic, ethanoic, and propanoic.
