taxes/Studies Weekly Magazine/begin assessment
Lesson Outline
Danny reviewed the meaning of goods, services, needs, wants, producers, and consumers. He reread what he wrote about taxes in his vocabulary log...the definition and for what taxes are used . He also added the following: The laws of my state (Florida) and the laws of my country (the United States of America) say taxes must be paid. Danny then worked on activities on the back cover of his Studies Weekly magazine. One activity asked him to match the worker to the service provided. A second activity asked Danny to write about what he would like to be when he grows up. What service would be provided? Danny concluded today's session by beginning an assessment. He colored, cut, and pasted pictures on to the correct side of a paper, a need or a want?

2-D Shapes
Lesson Outline
Danny and I continued on focus on 2-dimensional shapes, specifically the triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, and hexagon. Danny counted the number of sides and vertices of shapes and used these attributes to determine the shape's name. He also drew lines to complete shapes making them look like the named shape. Then, Danny listened to clues about different shape attributes and determined the unknown shape. Next, the daily word problem was completed along with the warm-up which covered numbers greater than a given number, missing numbers in equations, and fractions. He finished with 3-digit subtraction with regrouping across zeros practice problems.

Measuring/Test Flight
Lesson Outline
Danny became more acquainted with the 16' measuring tape. While we were outdoors testing the wooden glider plane, Danny would ask similar questions related to height; "How tall is 4', 5', 6', 7'..... and so on. Each time, I would illustrate on myself, a tree, or perhaps a playground member where these various measurements might fall. We then went indoors and looked up on the internet, how tall the tallest person is in the world. The answer was 8'3". Danny really seemed to be inquisitive about this whole endeavor.

Attributes of 3-D Shapes
Lesson Outline
Danny began with a daily warm-up which covered completing the pattern, drawing the hands on a clock, even numbers, and reading number words. The daily word problem was also completed, needing two-steps to complete. Then, we continued to work on arrays to prepare for multiplication. Danny took a given amount of objects and divided them equally between groups along with watching a correlating BrainPOP Jr video and completing the quiz. Today's lesson looked at the attributes of 3-D shapes, specifically the cube, rectangular prism, sphere, cone, and cylinder. Danny looked at their different attributes and counted the number of faces, edges, and vertices of each shape. Finally, we found real world objects that matched each of the 3-D shapes.
