Aiden viewed a video about The Grand Staircase, which explains how three canyons demonstrate that layers of rock are the same throughout The West using the principles of lateral continuity and superposition. He learned about the three unconformities: angular unconformity, disconformity and nonconformity. He completed Investigation "Gaps in the Rock Record."
Work on learning about urbanization and what the effects it has on deforestation. Watch video that shows causes, effects, and solutions to deforestation.
Aiden watched the video "Secrets of the Origin of Life" which showed how some of the oldest fossils are of cyanobacteria and indicated what the early environmental conditions for life on Earth were. He read the text "A Closer Look: Drilling Into the Past" which discussed how oxygen isotopes in fossil foraminifera taken from seafloor cores indicate ancient global climates. He watched a video discussing this scientific technique. He completed the lesson review.
Aiden reviewed the principles of relative-age dating: superposition, original horizontality, lateral continuity, inclusions and cross-cutting relationships. He drew diagrams of each principle. He examined a diagram of layers of rock containing fossils and used the law of superposition to relative age date the fossils and rock layers. He also identified rock layers indicating mass extinctions.
Colson reviewed the three kinds of faults: strike-slip faults, normal faults and reverse faults. He drew them on the board. He read about the three types of mountains: folded mountains, volcanic mountains and fault-block mountains. He drew diagrams of these and watched a video animating the processes. We discussed. He completed the Visual Summary and Lesson Review.
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read and discussed her vocabulary words. She finished her calendar talk. She worked on her phonics activities. She put together her daily sentence puzzle. She reviewed the life cycle of the ant, the spider, and the bat.
Teddy completed his interactive calendar. He read and discussed his vocabulary words. He worked on his calendar talk activity. He finished his phonics activities. He put together his daily sentence puzzle. He reviewed the life cycles of the ant, the spider, and the bat.
