Aiden completed the Encounter the Phenomenon where he drew a diagram of the sound waves from a phone, a phone in a glass jar, and a phone under a glass jar. He completed the lab "Crashing Waves" where he modeled water waves in a ripple tank. He recorded his observations.

Chris completed the illustrated notecard on learned behaviors. He researched different types of bird nests and drew a picture. We gathered materials from the science lab and outside and he built a model bird nest. The objective was to built a nest that would protect the eggs and keep them warm.

Libby completed her interactive calendar She read and discussed her vocabulary words. She learned how to dissect a Barn owl pellet and discover what animal the owl had eaten by comparing the bones found to the bone chart.

Colson completed the Investigation "Mutation Classification" where he classified different mutations as positive, negative or neutral. We discussed each one. He chose the genetic mutation for eye color, researched it, and wrote a summary of what he learned.

Chris read about three different types of courtship behavior: competition, use of pheromones, and mating calls. He completed the Investigation "Staying Safe" where he analyzed silhouettes of three birds (goose, hawk and tern) to determine how a baby gosling would respond to the shape of the bird flying above. He read about innate and learned behaviors. He created illustrated notecards for innate and learned behaviors. We discussed.

Colson reviewed mutations. He read the text "A Closer Look: Why so blue?" and we discussed how blue eyes are the product of a genetic mutation in a human ancestor. He analyzed a chart of genetic disorders. We discussed the locations of the mutations on the different chromosomes and genes that cause the following disorders: cystic fibrosis, breast cancer/ovarian cancer, Williams Syndrome and PKU.

Aiden completed the Wave Properties lesson review. We analyzed a diagram of an at rest slinky and slinky with a longitudinal wave. We discussed how to calculate the amplitude of a longitudinal wave from that diagram. He completed the Lesson 2 Launch "Tin Can Phone" where he brainstormed how a tin can phone transmits sound.
