Discuss and define selective breeding as a process by which traits are selected and passed on to future generations. Define and discuss hybridization and how it is used to produce organisms giving a competitive edge. List examples of these competitive edges as passed on from parent organism to offspring. Discuss examples of disadvantages as well as advantages. Define inbreeding as a process to insure the passage of traits. Discuss test crossing as a method to determine homozygous dominant from heterozygous dominant. Show examples
Question how heterotrophs obtain their energy. Lead into a discussion of cellular respiration which involves a decomposition of glucose to obtain energy. Stress how cellular respiration is not breathing. Discuss an overview of the process. Consider the formula for the oxidation of glucose and the steps in which it proceeds. Separate it into glycolysis and aerobic respiration, the Krebs cycle. Determine the glycolysis is the splitting of glucose and occurs in the cytoplasm of cells. It is initiated when a glucose molecule, utilized energy from ATP and "splits" into two 3 carbon units. .

Lesson Comments
This was about half the lesson. Will be continued on Monday.
Max and I went over the human nervous system and the eye. We looked at and discussed diagrams of a neuron, action potential, synapse, neurotransmitters, cornea, pupil, iris, lens, vitreous humor, retina and optic nerve. We began discussing human sexual reproduction. We discussed the terms zygote, internal and external fertilization.
Concentrate on the savanna and desert biomes.
Discuss the rainfall, temperature, location on the planet, types of plants, adaptations to survival by plants. Show photographs and sketches.
View the animal life present in both biomes and the adaptations brought about by natural selection to increase their chances of survival.
Andrew and I discussed the tendency of humans to categorize the subjects that we studied.
We looked at the categories that exist in art. We spoke about several types of art and prominent artists. Andrew drew comparisons amongst the artistic styles and artists. He categorized them.
We then discussed how these categories can give shape to comparisons and contrasts. We discussed some of the categories of life and elements of those categories.
We discussed elements that we strongly associate with those categories and then gave stark examples of elements that we would not expect to find in categories such as trees with lungs or humans bearing fruits.
Today Anna presented her final project on the Taiga. She also took the final exam via Quizizz for AP Bio Ecology scoring 100%.
