It was wonderful to meet Loulie and to have an opportunity to work with her this week. Our theme for the week will be “Under the Sea”. We will study ocean creatures both as characters in fiction picture books and in nonfiction. She shared that she loves the ocean and is very interested in learning about all the creatures that live in the sea.
We began today’s session by reading and discussing the book “Rainbow Fish” by Marcus Pfister. Loulie was very excited and shared that she had just received the book for Christmas. We talked about the beginning, middle, and end in a short retelling. Next, we worked on our own Rainbow Fish. She decided that it would be great to have a puppet show and I feel it would be a nice way to create an interdisciplinary unit, so we are turning them into puppets. We cut the fish out and painted and colored them and began to put the bits of sparkles on them. We will finish them tomorrow.
For mathematics we played the fishing game. We created a bar graph of the colors of the fish we caught. Then we played a “Going Fishing” game that incorporated adding and subtracting within 10. She brought the game home to play with her family. She will bring this back tomorrow, so we can continue with our addition and subtraction practice.
After lunch and a short recess break, we read 2 other books in the Rainbow fish series and discussed the plot for our puppet show. It was a quick, fun-filled morning, She really seems to enjoy role playing and is excited to plan our puppet show!
Oh No! Loulie's last day, so sad to see her go. We spent our last session reviewing previous lessons and we used a new friend to help us. Louie the Lion (my name for him) helped us sing the alligator song and point out the letters in sequence and scattered. He helped us read a Dr. Seuss book and find the words we have practiced. Louie identified numbers to 20 without leaving any out! Loulie made up a song about Louie and performed a dance for him, too. I so enjoyed teaching your sweet girl and meeting you. Hopefully, we'll see you again sometime in the future.
Louile and I began the session with the basic routine of singing the alphabet, months of the year, days of the week, today's day and today's weather.
Louie and I danced to a few of her favorite Spanish songs and practiced some flamenco dancing movements. We then played with the hula hoop. We practiced some writing skills with exercises that involved recognition of shapes.

Louile was incredibly focused and enjoyed her last class of the season quiet a bit. She completed the 5 pieces of written material on shapes and colors.
Loulie continued learning about plants today. She observed the plants that we planted on Wednesday and commented on how much they have grown. She watched a Brain Pop video on plants and what they need to grow and then made a flip book with pictures of the sun, water, soil, and air.
Today we reviewed the sounds of vowels and worked on some exercises on lecto-escritura. Also, we practiced the letter A and did a craft of a A-doll together. We watched some Peppa Pig in Spanish and we sang how the vowels laugh. It was truly a pleasure to have met Loulie and have had the opportunity to work with her. Have a safe trip back home!
Loulie and I worked on letter naming and the sounds for s,a,and m. We read the sentences 'I am Sam.' and 'I am Loulie.' She listened to a silly song about the word -am. We read the book 'The Nice Little House', and sequenced the events in the story.

We did not do our full 60 minutes. I had gotten as much as I could out of her in the 45 minutes we had. Anything further would have been counterproductive.
Loulie and I worked on (played with) the sound for /m/ today. She played a matching sound game on Reading Eggs and listened to a song about the sound. We read 'The Cooking Pot' with Loulie reading along on the second read. She retold the story events in sequence. We made number patterns to match our color block patterns and wrote the digits for 15 in the sand box. Oh, we also sang Happy Birthday to Miss Judie!
Loulie and I worked on the /s/ sound today. We wrote the letter in the air and made the sound, found the letter in a letter search and identified objects that begin with the sound. We sang the Alligator song while matching the letters on the wall. Our story for the day was 'How Bear Lost His Tail', and we talked about the genre of folktales. Loulie worked on the numbers 1-20, focusing on the often excluded 15.
