design fundamentals. Jeron finished his "still life" painting in the style of Cezanne today. This was done to show the use of the element "form" by using shadowing and shading. He then added new information into his notebook for our color theory classes. We started with the "primary" colors, red, blue, and yellow.

Science assessment and Plants -
I met Jeron today, and we spent some time getting to know each other. I asked him some scientific questions about his trip to Australia; explaining that science is the search for the truth, and is evident in everything we experience. We talked about science and discussed the different areas where he had a keen interest. I asked him to show me his home school computer program, which shows what science subjects he has completed and what was waiting his attention. It seemed that he had completed the physical science and Earth science sections, and had life science units left to complete. We started the plants section and he easily answered the questions about the function of plant anatomy. He demonstrated his considerable skill with his computer by making it read the questions and told me they were easy. We examined the plant anatomy section, and determined that the vocabulary was new. He admitted that the next section would require some study, but we had run out of time. I look forward to working with Jeron in the future.

Writing process
Lesson Outline
Jeron and I discussed his writing project. He decided to write a comic with two ants as characters. In our previous lesson, we completed an idea web. We answered and listed Who, What, Where, When, and How to help organize the comic story.

Lesson Comments
Jeron was reluctant to work today. I reviewed his ideas on his idea web and his story map. I repeatedly tried to engage him in writing. He said he didn't think he wanted to pursue the project anymore. I told him that I would be agreeable to change from the comic to another form of final project, but I was not willing to scrap what we started. He wanted us to write conversation (instead of speaking.) As his writing teacher, I want him to go through the writing process and am willing to do research or something more creative. I do not think I would be teaching him anything by spending an hour taking turns writing our conversation instead of using our voices. He broke his pencil and it flew across the room when I did not give in to his desire.

Pre-writing
Lesson Outline
Jeron viewed a PowerPoint on subordinate and coordinate conjunctions. We made a word web to begin to organize ideas for a story. He brainstormed ideas about who, what, where, when, and how. Jeron decided he wanted to write in a normal book form instead of comic strip form. He began writing a sloppy copy. For homework, Jeron, could capture a few ants to bring to school for inspiration.

design fundamentals. Using the "element" of "Value," Jeron started his value painting using the design he created last class time, of "lines" and "shapes." He added this information into his notebook for future reference. We will finish this painting next class time, and then begin a second painting using the idea of values: with one color, known as "monochromatic."

Creative Writing: Tank and Fizz, sentence clauses and punctuation
Lesson Outline
Today we went over the different types of clauses in a sentence. Jeron practiced identifying and constructing subordinate clauses in addendum to a main clause. We reviewed the plot elements in a story and read from Tank & Fizz. We discussed building suspense and characterization in the story. Lastly, Jeron played a punctuation game online where he had to come up with the correct sentence ending in order to win.
