The Emperors of the Ice -
Ana and I read two chapters of the book ‘The Emperors of the Ice’, by Richard Farr and discussed how hard it must have been to be on the expedition in Antarctica. We talked about how one character was injured from burning blubber, and how such an incident could not only hurt immensely but also could have been fatal under the circumstances. We took notes to include in our book report once she has finished reading.

The Emperors of the Ice -
Ana and I summarized the first half of the book ‘The Emperors of the Ice’, by Richard Farr. We used our notes from Monday and our summary to start a book report. Ana chose her favorite parts of the book and described the narrator and the expedition. We left the report with a reference to the emperor penguins, and will continue once we have finished reading that part of the book. We then read most of two chapters before ending the class.

Ana and I read the next four chapters of the book ‘The Emperors of the Ice’, by Richard Farr. Her teacher has suggested she write a book report of the entire novel, in lieu of the three separate assignments listed in her assignments due section. We will continue and finish the book to start on the report on Friday.

Ana and I read the first chapter of the book ‘The Emperors of the Ice’, by Richard Farr. She was then tasked with answering three questions from a long list. She chose to answer as many questions she could. We worked on getting these answers into a longer paragraph, before she submitted her work.
Ana was able to complete one of the lessons for the Midwife's Apprentice. She continued to read the next several chapters in preparation for the following lessons.
Zach and I read "The Lay of the Were Wolf" by Marie de France. Next we reviewed the persuasive writing rhetoric and then Zach wrote a three paragraph persuasive essay defending the actions of the werewolf from the story.
Zach and I reviewed sample argumentative essays with clear persuasive techniques. We outlined their claims, counterclaims, and how they refute these counterclaims. We also covered persuasive transitional phrases. Next Zach completed an outline and a first draft of his argumentative essay on Julius Caesar.
Zach and I finished reading the rest of Julius Caesar and discussed the development of plot and characters in the play. We analyzed whether Brutus should be considered a betrayer or a patriot, and Zach had to complete an assignment asking him to find evidence of both positions in the play and then explain each quote's significance to each argument. Next, Zach researched the actual Battle of Philippi in 42BC and completed an assignment comparing and contrasting the play's rendition of the battle to the historical account. Lastly, Zach wrote a response detailing why he thought Brutus was a betrayer or patriot.
