Alexa chose to complete her Lady MacBeth project on her own, so we read the short story. At first, Alexa wasn't sure that she wanted to read it. She really liked it, and read almost the entire story aloud. We also noted some inferences used throughout, and the use of black humor. The short story is a crime story, and Alexa really liked it.
Katya and I read the short story. We took turns reading it aloud. We stopped to define difficult vocabulary using context clues. We answered ten discussion questions about the story discussing verbal irony and black humor, both techniques employed by the author. We then did a couple brief activities practicing the correct use of apostrophes.
Alexa and I worked on her final project for the play. She worked on her drawing. We also discussed how she would present her textual evidence to support her drawing. We also discussed her common app on the computer for college.
Katya and I did some grammar/punctuation activities. I explained what a comma splice was and she caught on quickly. We discussed what areas of grammar she struggles with; I will prepare some activities to help review and practice those.
Re: Tupac Essay: Working on proofreading skills. Questioned Vlad on sequencing of sentences; packaging like topics; keeping to the thesis and the paper's organization announced in the thesis. Re: Trump Essay: Went over mechanical errors that keep cropping up -- punctuation, capitalization, etc. Went over where wording needed to be improved. Went over part two of essay and organizing the answer to Who is controlling Trump's image?
