Presentation
Lesson Outline
Will began work on his presentation about jobs in the film industry. Originally, we explored doing it on the Prezi platform, however, it was tricky to navigate, and Will felt uncomfortable. We discussed the platform options, and Will decided to create his presentation on the Power Point platform. He completed the first 2 slides in class. Will should complete the first section, on the job of movie producer, for class on Tuesday.

Lesson Comments
Will is very stressed about college acceptance and the Prezi platform proved too trying for him. He began to become very overwhelmed, so I steered him back to power point, which is still used on campuses. He can't wait until Saturday because he think he will hear from everyone by then.

Research and MLA citations
Lesson Outline
Will continued learning about MLA style and research citations. He created a “Works Cited” document in MLA style documenting the sites that he used for his research on “Dream Jobs” in the film Industry. Will worked very carefully and did an excellent job formatting his work. Next, he began to plan the panels for his Prezi presentation. For homework, he should choose a template to use for his presentation.

British Literature
Lesson Outline
Natalie continued studying British Literature (chronologically) to Horace Walpole and Mary Shelley. She has moved to Gothic Romanticism. She took an open-book test as she studied. I received homework, Evaluating the Thinking of an Author, that Natalie completed on the Hamlet criticism. We changed her essay prompt from analyzing that criticism to critiquing each of Hamlet's major decisions and actions following the encounter with his father's ghost, what she thinks he should have done, and if she agrees or disagrees with his decisions and actions. This will be supported by textual evidence. The essay is due next Thursday. We will also have a test on Hamlet next week now that Natalie has completed the reading and study sheets.

Hamlet concluding
Lesson Outline
Natalie finished the study questions for Act 5, scoring a 60. I returned the paper with the items marked that we need to review. We will do that the next session before beginning British Literature. Next Thursday she has a cumulative test on Hamlet; she has a study guide to consult. Natalie completed critical thinking questions on an academic Hamlet criticism, but did not do the essay anticipated -- instead she received a different prompt. That essay is due next Thursday, the day of the Hamlet test.

Research and MLA citations
Lesson Outline
Will completed his research on the "dream job" of Film producer. He conducted online research to determine the skills needed, work conditions, average salaries, and best cities to live in if you want to work in the film industry. After researching the answers he wrote the citations for the two sources he utilized. For homework, Will should write the citation for the cinematographer article he used last week. I sent him the link to this article via email. Will did a good job today, and has mastered the format for writing citations.

Lesson Comments
Will seemed very preoccupied today. He talked a great deal about the fact that he might find out if he is accepted at Lynn and Mitchell next week. I am sure he is feeling "senior" stress.

Research and MLA citations
Lesson Outline
Will continued his research on dream jobs in film production in preparation for his project. He decided to add one more job to his list, the job of the producer. We generated a list of 5 questions for him to research online. We discussed the need to cite the sources of information when you are writing a paper or putting a presentation together. I reviewed MLA citation for online sources with him. MLA (Modern Language Association) style is used by the Humanities and is most likely what he will be using in his freshman year. He completed researching question one and wrote a citation for that information which he got from a website called “The Premium Beat”. I stressed the need for accuracy in the citation as well as punctuation of the citation. He did a good job with this task. For homework, he will be researching question two and writing the citation.

Natalie has been studying the major writers and their works from the earliest texts of Great Britain. Today she is reading and testing on Jane Austen and Lord Byron. Natalie studied a PPT on argumentative writing that we use at Palm Beach State for first year composition, and will choose a prompt from that textbook to write an argumentative paper for next week. She still needs to complete the analysis essay on the literary criticism on Hamlet.
