Holocaust Fighters - We reviewed the summary for the book. Then, we dove into the introduction of the novel. We will continue tomorrow and wrap up with a quiz.
We reviewed the homophones from yesterday including there, their, and they're, and your, you're, and yore. Then, we explored its and it's, then and than, two, to, and two. Next, we discussed mnemonic devices for each form of the word. After that, we worked together to assign the correct form of the homophone in context of the sentence. Lastly, Cameron completed his independent practice and made no errors. He will have a quiz tomorrow.
Homophones and correct word usage - We explored the definitions for the words your (possessive), you're (contraction for you are), and yore (from old times). Then, we looked at mnemonic devices for each form of the word. Next, we worked through guided practice and selected the correct form of the word for each sentence. After that, Cameron worked through independent practice by inserting the correct form of the word in sentences. Lastly, Cameron completed an exit ticket by choosing the correct form for a sentence that had two blanks.
Understanding there, their, and they're by definitions, correct word in context, use of mnemonic devices to remember which form to use and edit sentences for correct word choice. First, we discussed the definitions and meanings of each form of the word. Then, we explored mnemonic methods including the "i" in their shows someone owns it, here in the word there to show location, and the apostrophe indicating a contraction. After that, we worked through guided practice in which I read the sentence, and Cameron determined which form of the word matches the context. Lastly, Cameron created sentences using each form of the word correctly.
Lord of the Flies - We completed the novel and discussed the summary for each chapter. We discussed what transpired throughout the novel. Cameron had a good understanding of the novel and the themes presented.

Exploring Tone, Diction, Connotation, and Denotation in Lord of the Flies - ELA 10.R.1.1, ELA.10.R.1.2, ELA.10.C.1.4 - We explored key vocabulary including tone, diction, connotation, and denotation. For diction, author's use words or phrases that are indicative of their backgrounds. For connotation and denotation, we discuss pig, home, and beast along with their denotations from the dictionary and the connotations and whether they were negative, positive, or neutral. For tone, we discussed that it is the author's attitude about the subject. Cameron was able to identify tone and diction from excerpts from the text. He was also able to identify connotation and denotation with words from the text. Lastly, Cameron was able to give examples from his own life and was able to give a negative or positive label to each.
Lord of the Flies - We reviewed what has happened so far in the novel. We looked over Cameron's assignment from earlier in the week. He produced a wonderful description of a leader for the island and drew a wonderful picture of the character. Then, we began reading/listening to chapter 7 while focusing on figurative language.
