Cabo completed the novel Hoot by Carl Hiassen. Cabo discussed and analyzed the novel for the themes of friendship and righteouness. He discussed what he felt the author was conveying about these themes and how the characters conveyed it. He also analyzed the tones of humor and seriousness and discussed their shifts and how that augmented the theme. Cabo will take a written assessment on the novel during the next class.

After our discussion, she wrote on the following prompt: Consider what obtaining an education entails. Oftentimes, when we think of the word, we think of school: classes, lectures, study groups. But much of the protagonist's education occurred outside of the classroom. Who else, aside from Tara's teachers, helped educate her?

He then discussed the following examples of rhetorical strategies: the difference between static and dynamic characters, examples in the novel of verbal, structural, and dramatic irony, made an inference based on events in the novel. Identified examples of similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole and foreshadowing in the novel, and identified examples of internal conflict within the novel.
