Parallel Plot
Lesson Outline
Eecho completed the story he was assigned to write for FLVS. He had already fleshed out the plot, exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and outcome and just needed to write the story and include the required details like 8 lines of dialogue, 2 semicolons, slow pace, fast pace, 5 details, etc. His completed story was dramatic, sentimental, evocative, and well executed. This is a story of which Eecho can be proud. Well done!

Unit 2 Assessment and Preparation for Parallel Plot Assignment

We reviewed the material on tone, diction, and mood in preparation for the unit test and completed the test. We then continued on to clarify the assignment for the next unit: complete the Narrative Planner and compose a story with a parallel plot for The Boy in Striped Pajamas. ***Very Important: Eecho needs to contact his teacher of record for the FLVS class and complete the Discussion-Based Assessment by phone.

Boy in the Striped Pajamas Graphic Organizer on Plot
Lesson Outline
Today we completed a graphic organizer on the plot of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. There were many parts to the questions which primarily addressed the evolution of the protagonist. Interestingly, the FLVS material drew from James Marcia's work on identity status (which grew out of Erik Erikson's identity and psychosocial development theories). Marcia identifies Diffusion, Foreclosure, Moratorium, and Achievement are NOT stages, NOT sequential, but statuses. This can be very helpful to adolescents if they are prompted to identify with it, and FLVS makes small steps to guide students in that direction.

Plot Trajectory Lesson
Lesson Outline
Today we worked through the FLVS lesson on plot. We finished the exercises for the lesson and Eecho took the quiz. He scored 100% on the machine graded portions. On the essay questions that must be graded by humans, Eecho generated a humorous and original parallel plot line for the Tortoise and the Hare fable. I pointed Eecho to a link that can help him to complete the graphic organizer he must complete for The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Eecho has an impressively strong grasp of what constitutes plagiarism and how to avoid it.

Lesson Comments
He was willing to stay more time to complete it together, but I am uncertain as to whether that is desired by his mother or not. I do think he is quite capable of finishing assignments independently. As Eecho's mother and I discussed, he is quite creative and humorous, but has a block when typing. I recommended dictation software. When working together, it seems to help a great deal when I type what Eecho says aloud. He is far less inhibited that way.
