Andrew began work on hs newest Lego project - a model of the Empire State Building, that has 1,767 component pieces. We discussed how this is a structure, he needs to build its base first. That is not necessarily true for his other lego models. The base will serve as the fondation upon which the rest of the structure will be built. Andrew shows an excellent ability to follow visual directions. He demonstrates a propensity to think creatively and to reason systematically. He believes he will be able to create his own model, which led me to suggest how a possible career path for him might be to design concept cars, or prototypes, which showcase new styling and technology for vehicles and/or new technology that may hold appeal to consumers.
Ayden will use the text commands to label the rooms on his first and second floor plans, and include the width by length dimensions. He will use the distance command to identify the x an y dimensions of each room. He will search the web for some autocad blocks of office furniture, sofas, chairs, and cocktail tables for lounging areas, place them in the rooms on his plans, and arrange furniture arrangements. He will research the standard layout of handicap accessible restrooms.

Lesson Comments
I was a sub for Kevin this period. He left the assignment for Ayden.
Today, Andrew researched the definition of architectural concept - as the meaning and reason to the end product, or the completed building or structure, and the very first part of the design process to be developed and realized. We made the comparison and analogy of a seed to a plant. Andrew then resumed work on a Lego structure building a BTL-A4 Y-Wing Starfighter from Star Wars. Andrew completed one final piece and invited me to push in the turbo engine component to its base. He commented, "isn't it a good feeling to push it in after completing a component?" It is encouraging to observe his workmanship, skills, perseverance, and the pleasure he derives from constructing and completing hands-on projects.
