Lesson Outline
Today Kelcy and I completed putting together and writing his Valentine's card. It will be dry tomorrow and he is excited to give it to his parents!

We read two short chapters of Junie B. and responded in his Wonder Journal.

Kelcy spent a good portion of our session recording his Word Wall words, letters, and letter chunks into his journal as well. I wanted to make sure he had a portable word wall to take with him and to show his teachers when you return home!

Hundreds Chart / Halves
Lesson Outline
Kelcy and I worked with the hundreds chart by playing a game called six weeks of winter. We took turns rolling 2 dice, adding to find the sum, and moving that many spaces. The chart contained suns which were plus 10 and clouds which were minus ten. Kelcy practiced moving up or down one space on the chart instead of counting by ones. The player to reach the groundhog (120) first to wake him up won the game. Next, we spent time on the concept of halves representing two equal pieces which put together equals one whole. Kelcy colored either 1/2 or 2/2 of a given shape. Finally, on Mathseeds he practiced subtraction by finding how many were left.

Water color
Lesson Outline
Kelcy made a beautiful watercolor painting today in arts and crafts. He started with a piece of 11x14 heavyweight watercolor paper. Then, Kelcy used a white crayon to design his paper. Using watercolors, he worked in sections picking two or three complementary colors to fill the paper. Once one section was fully painted, Kelcy sprinkled the paint with salt and lightly sprayed the area with rubbing alcohol. The salt and rubbing alcohol made the paints bleed together while leaving a texture to the paint. Kelcy will keep working on this project with Ms. Courtney to be able to take it home on Friday.

Base 10 Blocks / Memory
Lesson Outline
Kelcy used base 10 blocks to his help with his number sense and place value understanding. I would write a two-digit number on the whiteboard and Kelcy would use tens blocks to represent the tens place digit and ones blocks to represent the ones place digit. Then, he would count the blocks, counting by 10's then 1's. Next, Kelcy and I played memory using the numbers 20-29 to reinforce number recognition. Finally, Kelcy completed map 12 on Mathseeds, took the map quiz, and earned his printed award.
