I am continuing to remove objects that are causing a distraction. As mentioned before, Luke would greatly benefit from the assistance of an ABA 2-3 times per week (half-day). Teachers would also benefit from consistent responses that could be implemented across the board.
Jason continues to struggle with changing the short letter sound to its name. He came into class after spending the weekend with Dad. He continued to complain about his schedule and said he hated school. I reminded him of our previous conversation about talking to his mom about his concerns and possible solutions.
After discussing Aiden's impressions of the conclusion of To Kill A Mockingbird , we began our study of our first novel, The Alchemist, an allegory. I explained the distinction between a philosophical allegory and a political allegory such as Animal Farm and provided context to the archetype plot of a journey . We then explored the influence of Christian theology in the novel's depiction of a shepherd and sheep and discussed how referring to someone as a sheep can also serve as a pejorative . In this regard, we also reviewed Aiden's homework questions and reviewed how to construct a response that does not create a sentence fragment. Last, I introduced the theme of instinct vs. reason that runs through the novel.

Luke asked me to read rather than him reading his own book. He was attentive and involved with the story. He was not interested in the vocabulary as it was a bit removed from his daily experience.

Luke knew some of the words from his list, so we only had four words to play for the game. He was focused throughout the entire game. His writing indicated additional work in letter formation.
