Alexa and I reviewed simplifying exponential and radical expressions today. We also started to simplify rational expressions by factoring and cancelling like factors. We reviewed factoring differences of squares. We reviewed fraction division. We started simplifying complex fractions.

I tried connecting with Alexa for 45 minutes. I suppose she either has just given up and decided that it will not matter to the university. Its unfortunate, just as little effort these last few weeks would have definitely put her over the finish line.
I presented two short stories to Alexa. I presented an introduction to both: "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allen Poe and "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" by James Thurber. Alexa chose Thurber's story to read. We talked about the time period of the story and some necessary background information. We began reading the story, and Alexa will finish reading it for homework.

Alexa signed on 30 minutes late--said that she had a rough day.
Alexa and I reviewed exponents today. Specifically, she practiced converting numbers in radical notation to exponential notation. I reminded her that, with rational exponents, the denominator is the root, or index, which helped her in writing numbers in radical form. She also had to simplify radical expressions.
I also talked to her about her hours and what she needs to complete going forward. She needs 9.5 hours after today. I encouraged her to come to class on time the remainder of this week, and then we will be left with a little over 5 hours to complete next week. We talked about trying to schedule her from 10:30-12 or 12:30 next week. If she comes every day, then she will have her hours complete.
Describe communities in terms of populations. Discuss the interactions between populations with a community for food, water, space, nutrients from the soil, defenses and counter defenses between herbivores and carnivores. Define and explain symbiosis, commensalism, and mutualism.
A graph of the human population waspresented, the sharp increase over the last 150 years was pointed out, and the question presented; What factors could cause this dramatic increase? The 5-6 main factors were presented in video form, which would then be scrutinized and explained in depth.

We discussed the story throughly today. We discussed the time period. We also looked at a clip of the movie made based on the story. We talked about theme and why the story is an allegory. Alexa also answered the accompanying study guide questions. We defined and discussed situational irony. Alexa did a good job.
