Jared reviewed important vocabulary words encountered in this course. We also discussed some of the broad themes in American literature; he took special note of the fact that because of this course, he became familiar with authors who sparked the Harlem Renaissance movement.

Jared is very bright, and I think as he matures he will become an excellent student. I hope to be able to teach him again next year when he takes his English 12 course.
I invited Keaton, a new student with near-perfect eidetic memory to go over important vocabulary for both spelling and synonyms. Judie also joined us for a short time. Jared did fairly well compared to the two guests.

I have been experimenting with a repetitive quiz technique to demonstrate how much Jared retains, both long- and short-term. He recalls quite a bit, more than I had expected.

Hopefully Jared will learn something about the story elements involved in the theme parks. Maybe I'll give an assignment to describe the stories. I'm sure he'll love that :)
We experimented with a method for learning vocabulary, saw my film I had created about the state of student writing abilities, and had a discussion with Walt about the Holocaust. We ended with a diacussion of a short reading from the textbook.

A method for teaching vocabulary and spelling, which repeats assessments over a period of time, seems to work for Jared.
We reviewed a variety of difficult words, and spent most of the time learning their meanings and spellings. At the end of the time, Jared knew all the words!
