Lesson Comments
Andrew's attention to the project we are working on was limited, as he continued to talk about the LEGO movie he will be making soon. That said, we were able to make some progress learning Microsoft Excel functionality, and we worked on setting up his new computer to access files we are using in our Teams channel.

Bobby is a good student and I expect he should be fine with PERT test and dual enrollment as long as he puts the time in to prepare.

Today Andrew worked on building a spreadsheet using Excel to gather data on his business idea. He is evaluating an entertainment complex that includes an ice rink, arcade, food court, skate park, and roller rink. We began entering data based on his assumptions in order to estimate costs and revenues.

Andrew enjoys working on our project but gets wrapped up in details not relevant to the objective. I frequently need to steer him back to the question at hand. That said, we are making progress!

Using Paint & PowerPoint

Today Christopher learned to use the computer program "Paint" to draw pictures and write words and then export the picture to PowerPoint. We plan to make a story (slide presentation) to deliver at a future date.

Lesson Comments
Christopher picked up concepts quickly and was able to use the "Paint" program to draw and write. He tends to stay on subjects too long in conversation and needs to be redirected at times. He has potential and I think we worked well today.

Today at 10:00am Ben told me that he did not feel well. When I asked specifically what was wrong, he said he felt exhausted and had a bad headache. I noticed what appeared to be a cut or scrape below his nose and when I asked about it Ben said he wasn't sure what caused it. I had Elise take his temperature again a few times and it did not appear elevated. Elise called and arranged for Ben to be picked up early. Ben appeared to lose balance a few times but did not fall during the time I was with him.

See lesson outline above - Hard to tell if he was faking or real, or if the symptoms were psychosomatic. If he was faking he was doing a very good acting job! He almost fell to his knees twice and had to lean on the wall while getting water.

Lesson Comments
This was my first session with Dutch. He was very informative about his history including interests and previous school activity. At one point when asked about his previous math classes, he said he couldn't remember and appeared to be confused. We are off to a good start given I used to race motocross and we both play golf. Computer modelling coming next week!

Lesson Comments
Ben did a good job working on the assignment he discussed earlier with his English teacher. I assisted him with formatting and spelling, but he needed little help. I was impressed that he uses voice recognition software to type his words. He is very polite, but does not stray from his objective or methods despite ideas being offered.

Today Kellan learned more office computer skills using Paint by creating objects, resizing them, moving them, undoing, redoing, and creating pictures. We learned how to change the backgrounds and formats.

Lesson Comments
Kellan can occasionally act rudely when he wants to get his way. This was not serious but noticeable on several occasions. It's kind of like a mini tantrum but he gets out of it quickly. He is learning Microsoft Office skills by incorporating things that he likes - drawing, coloring, adding and moving shapes and pictures using the computer mouse.
