Today Oliver completed all of his last lesson (5.03) in Module 5 and we began working in Module 6 with the pre-assessment and starting lesson 6.01. Tomorrow he has a conversation-based assessment phone call scheduled with Mr. Swails at 1pm. We also printed out all of the Module 6 lesson notes and study guides for him to use at home. I'm proud of his efforts in this class so far, good luck!

Lesson Comments
Great last day, hopefully he feels set up for success!
We worked on graphing quadratics using vertex form, showing vertex, x- intercepts, y-intercept and axis of symmetry. Oliver then had to show two more ordered pairs showing how wide or narrow the parabola would be.
Oliver worked on p.166 in his grammar workbook. He then read an article on Newsela about paying college athletes. I then had him go to Chompchomp.com and look at the Pronoun Reference Powerpoint. I assigned him p. 164 in the red grammar workbook.
Oliver completed grammar exercises in his book using pronouns and antecedents. He did a great job. He also spent some time reading "Prodigy." He completed his writing for "Mr. Wuffles."
We had to finish the activity on factoring which includes quadratics with a equals 1 and quadratics where a is not equal to 1. These quadratics not equal to 1 use the cast out method to factor.
This activity gave Oliver an opportunity to see all of the methods he has learned to analyze quadratic functions. Oliver took a quadratic function and determined the vertex by calculator, then by completing the square and last by the -b/2a method. He then determined the zeros of the function by calculator, factoring, completing the square, and lastly by quadratic formula.
Oliver had 3 activities to work on today. First, he edited a paragraph about Hawaiian leis. He found all 10 mistakes, but had to adjust his corrections on 2 of them. I talked to him about the difference between "there" and "they're", reminding him that if "they are" fits in the sentence, then he should use "they're". He then read 2 passages from an online site, and answered questions to test his reading comprehension. Finally, he worked on writing his Mr. Knuffles book.
