Dylan's End of the Year English Project and Reading Comprehension Exercises
Lesson Outline
Today, Dylan and I reviewed his summative assessment for his English class at Oxbridge. He created an I-Movie presentation of English and writing skills that he learned throughout the year. It was amazing. We went through it and fixed a couple of things, but he did a fabulous job! The great thing is that the concepts he learned this year are all concepts that need to be practiced for the SAT. We then worked on a few reading comprehension passages. I recommend continuously practicing so as not to lose the momentum and skills.
Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, Grammar and Conventions
Lesson Outline
Dylan and I focused mostly on the writing and conventions section today. We still need to practice. I would suggest keeping going until he takes the actual test. Dylan also completed more vocabulary sections and will work on finishing the book soon. We are going to focus on reading comprehension this coming week. Great job!
In this session, Dylan worked on his review exercise of solving logarithms with inequalities. He also solved logarithmic equations and exponential equations.
Dylan shared his final synthesis essay that he wrote for English class with me. We discussed his essay in relation to the 5-trait rubric as mentioned above. He did a great job. The skill I think Dylan mastered in this essay is incorporating quotes from more than one text into his own sentences with meaning. We then reviewed the next two chapters in SAT VOCABULARY. Once again, Dylan is adding to his knowledge of language. We then reviewed the reading comprehension passage that Dylan did for homework. We discussed the reasonings behind the correct answers. This session was a bit unique from other sessions, but very productive!
Reading Comprehension and Grammar and Conventions; Vocabulary
Lesson Outline
Dylan shared an essay assignment that he is working on for school. We reviewed some of it. I'm curious to see the final product! We also did some vocabulary together, as well as some review for the last five units. Dylan does very well on vocabulary. We then did some reading comprehension. We will continue to move forward until the test date! Great job, Dylan!
This session was in two parts, first we completed a review for his exam on polynomial equations. Then Dylan completed 10 problems on the SAT exam calculator section.
