In this review, we graphed polynomials by determining the zeros and multiplicity, and end behavior.

Dylan and I first reviewed the two chapters of vocabulary that he completed from the SAT VOCAB book. He is really expanding his vocabulary which is going to help him next year and in college. We then reviewed the reading comprehension passage that Dylan did at home. This was a tough one. It was from a British novel and the characters were a bit hard to identify and characterize. We went through each question and discussed the answers. It is good to get these challenging ones. Then we conquered two more convention passages. Dylan's strength is grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. We are working on slowing down on these passages for the questions that require more thought on the meaning of the passage as a whole. Dylan took home two more chapters in the vocab book and one more reading comprehension passage.

Dylan and I completed his review exercises. The concepts all revolved around polynomials. We had several factor patterns and end behaviors combined with zeros and their multiplicities.

Dylan and I reviewed vocabulary and used the answers in the SAT book to check his work. We worked on both the English Grammar and Convention section and two Reading Comprehension sections. Dylan is reading one for homework and also took the next two chapters of SAT vocabulary words. Dylan is talking to an advisor at Oxbridge about possible taking the SAT there at school.

In this session, we completed Dylan's review exercise to prepare for his exam. This included a review of factor patterns, and cast out method along with synthetic substitution and division.

What a productive session today! We got through several excises in both sets of skills. Dylan is making progress in his reading comprehension section of the test. He is reading more quickly and has a higher percentage of correct answers. He is able to correct wrong answers by thoughtfully going back, and insightfully and quickly deducing the correct answer. Dylan, as usual is becoming more enriched in his SAT vocabulary and recognizes many of the words from literature he reads. We need to get him signed up for the test! :)

In this session, Dylan wanted to complete his homework on polynomials. We talked about the rules of end behavior and zeros of even and odd multiplicity. We ended the session by analyzing the functions for numbers of positive, negative, and imaginary solutions.

We completed the third sat practice exam.

Dylan had completed a reading comprehension passage at home and we reviewed it. He did well. It seems that the most challenging type of question is the type that has two connected questions that also asks him to match the correct evidence to the the correct answer. We are working on these. We did a reading comprehension passage together and then completed two grammar and convention sections. Dylan is great at these. We copied more vocabulary exercises and we will continue next week!

In this session, we worked on the fourth exam non calculator section and part of the calculator section.
