We brainstormed ideas and narrowed it down to four. Next week, we will work on the outline and then completed the essay. Dylan enjoys listening to, 'Flat Stanley: The Mount Rushmore Calamity'. He made predictions, drew conclusions and identified character traits. We watched a brief video on the making of Mount Rushmore. Dylan wrote in his journal about the making of Mount Rushmore.

Lesson Outline
Today's spiral review included two-digit addition and subtractions, pattern completion, determining halves and estimation. We practiced time to the half hour and and adding and subtracting. Dylan enjoyed a timed game in which he was given a monetary amount and had to determine the correct combination of coins.

I'll begin the lesson by providing practice to increase fluency. I'll introduce the game, 4 in a Row. Dylan will be required to read words with welded letters while playing the game. The rest of the lesson will focus on spelling words and then marking the different elements in the words.

Today's lesson will concentrate on Block 1-Word Study. Dylan will produce the sounds for several vowels, consonants and welded letters. Dylan will then play the game, Ladder, which will provide practice reading words with welded letters. In order to increase fluency, Dylan will read 10 sentences that contain words with welded letters.

During this lesson, Dylan was able to produce the sounds for the letters that were selected. He missed 3 out of 15 words during the Charting exercise, which bothered him. Dylan was presented with the 10 sentences to read. Since he was showing signs of frustration and of being tired, I had Dylan read only 6 sentences.
We continue to read 'A Pig Can Jig' to promote blending and self confidence. In phonics, we are focusing on CVCe words and long vowel, one-syllable words with two vowels next to each other. Dylan enjoyed listening to the last chapter of 'Flat Stanley'. He did well making predictions and drawing conclusions. Dylan wrote about Dunmore Beach today in his journal. Focus was on letter and word spacing, capitalization and end punctuation. We used the internet to research the beach and find a picture for the journal.

He enjoyed listening to the next chapter in 'Flat Stanley'. Dylan likes to predict what will happen next. Lastly, Dylan wrote two sentences about his trip to the Bahamas. Capitalization, end punctuation, and letter and word spacing were stressed. He was very pleased with what he wrote. We used the internet to find pictures to go along with his writing.
