Oliva and I continued our study of the novel. We discussed the different levels of annotating and continued with our reading. We stopped periodically to answer the accompanying study guide questions. We also discussed the author's use of point of view. We also found a persuasive paper topic that Olivia will respond to as part of her final assessment on the novel.

Taylor and I first reviewed our questions we are going to use to survey the students for the yearbook. Then we did another section in her vocabulary book. Taylor does quite well with the application of the difficult vocabulary. Then we finished our discussion of the novel. I gave Taylor an assessment over the novel. We also discussed the analytical research paper that she will write as part of her final assessment on the novel.

Olivia and I began by discussing her double journal entries she had written for homework. She did a great job. I showed her how she could expand her analysis to make it more detailed and complete. We also completed lesson three in the vocabulary book. She is ready to complete the vocabulary review over the first three lessons which I will take for a grade. We then read a few pages in the novel annotating for quotes and understanding.
Taylor and I began our lesson by discussing her answers to the study guide questions that she had completed for homework. Taylor did quite well, and I clarified some of her questions about the content. We then finished reading the novel. She annotated for understanding and for material for her double journal entries. We started discussing possibilities for a literary analysis paper as her final assessment for the novel.

We discussed the rubric for the double journal entry. Olivia had a few questions and after we discussed them, said that she was clear on the assignment. We then continued our study of the novel. Olivia and I went over her homework that she successfully completed in the vocabulary book. Olivia and I studied the words from Lesson 3 in the vocabulary book. We then worked on the application exercises. Olivia does quite well with the advanced vocabulary. She said that she was only familiar with one of the new words. We then continued our study of the novel. We again discussed the purpose of annotating for understanding. We also talked about the writing of the double journal entries due on Thursday. We also discussed and answered the accompanying study guide questions. Olivia shared that she is really enjoying the novel which makes me happy.

Taylor had completed several lessons in her vocabulary book over break. We went over her answers. She did quite well with the application of the challenging vocabulary. We then continued our study of the novel. I introduced the double journal entry. We read examples of one. I presented the rubric that I will use to evaluate the double journal entries. I also stressed the importance of annotating so that she will have quotes to write about in her entries.We continued reading some of the novel annotating for important and meaningful quotations. We also discussed and formulated a list of questions that she will ask each Batt scholar for the Yearbook. We made one list for the elementary and another for the middle/high students.
