Lesson Outline
Taylor and I discussed possible articles for the school year book. Taylor shared the interview that she has completed with Judy and Cal. We talked about the articles being meaningful but not excessive in length. We then completed Unit 6 in the vocabulary book. We worked on application exercises using the difficult vocabulary words. We then read from the novel. I am modeling annotating a text. Taylor is working on that to increase her understanding of the book. We started answering some of the study guide questions but ran out of time.

Olivia and I finished watching the film. We then discussed the differences/similarities between the two. Olivia completed the detailed pre-writing folder for her paper as part of her final assessment. I explained the different ways to organize a comparison/contrast essay. We talked about how she will organize hers. We began creating an outline for her essay.

Taylor had completed several activities in her vocabulary book for homework. We went over the completed exercises. Taylor had done quite well using the difficult vocabulary words. We then moved on and read more from the novel. I am really trying to encourage annotating a text to increase understanding. We stop at certain points to illustrate how/what to mark in the novel.

Lesson Outline
Olivia and I are watching the movie of Gatsby. Olivia is also completing a viewing guide which asks her to compare/contrast the movie to the novel. Olivia will write a comparative analysis of the two using her viewing guide as her pre-writing.
Taylor and I did a brief introduction to the novel. We talked about the literary technique of point of view and how it especially affects this novel. We began reading the book stopping to discuss the author's purpose. Taylor will answer the accompanying study guide questions for homework. She is also going to complete some of the pages in her vocabulary book.

Olivia and I previewed the pre-writing that she will complete for the comparison/contrast paper that she will write. We watched the very first part of the movie. We talked about the similarities and differences between the two. We discussed how she will incorporate that into her paper.

Taylor and I reviewed the two assignments that she completed for homework. We revised her two essay question answers. She needs to insert in text citations. We also discussed the differences and similarities between the movie and the novel. We then proceeded to work in her vocabulary book learning difficult vocabulary and using those words in the exercises that followed.
