Olivia and I finished reading and studying chapter three of the novel. Olivia will answer the accompanying study guide questions for homework. We began a more in-depth analysis of Chapters 1-3. We are doing a direct and indirect character analysis of the main characters so far. We are also doing an in-depth study of the setting using textual evidence to support our descriptions. I briefly introduced chapter one in the vocabulary book. We began answering the first application exercise.

Answer chapter 3 study guide questions and read there informational text article "A Cheater's High" and answer the three brief questions after it.

Taylor and I finished reading chapter three. We then, along with Abby, completed an advanced study of first the characters. The students were required to list examples of direct and indirect characterization present in chapters 1-3. Students then needed to cite textual evidence to support their characterizations. We then did an advanced study of the setting of the story. Again we looked at the importance of setting and used textual evidence to support our descriptions/answers.

Olivia and I continued our study of the novel. We finished reading chapter one stopping to annotate for important aspects of characterization, setting and author's purpose. We began our discussion of chapter one using the accompanying study guide questions. We answered the first six together making sure to cite textual evidence to support our answers. Olivia did a nice job. She will finish answering the questions for homework.

Taylor and I continued our study of THE GREAT GATSBY. We completed our discussion of chapter two. We used the study guide questions as a springboard for our discussion. We then began our study of Chapter three. We discussed the author's purpose, his use of imagery and the symbolism present throughout this chapter. Taylor would like to take the SAT soon. We also discussed preparation for that test.

Twenties" as an introduction to THE GREAT GATSBY. We then discussed the vocabulary word list for chapter one of the novel. We then began to read Chapter One. We stopped frequently to clarify setting, to meet new characters and to appreciate the author's use of imagery.
