Cabo needed a bit more encouragement to get started today.
Cabo worked hard on his math problems. He also reserched the connection between Operation and the Solomon Islands Campaigns of 1942. He said he did not have any language arts homework. Cabo began his homework without being asked!
Cabo completed his language arts homework before his homework hour. With minimal encouragement, he worked on his math homework. Cabo used his computer to research the Battle of the Coral Sea to find out what caused the battle, what the effect of the battle was and who won the battle. Cabo emptied his entire book cabinet. We went through and organized the textbooks, notebooks and folders according to class.
Cabo and I looked at his homework assignments and when they are due. He completed his math problems and language arts reading assignment. He has a test in language arts tomorrow, but did not think he needed to look over the material. Cabo also had history homework that is not due until Thursday. He will work on that assignment tomorrow. We organized his room so that he had a clean work space for tomorrow.
Cabo completed his math, history reading and language arts reading assignments. He was quite pleased with himself. He needed very little encouragement to complete his homework today. He decided the order he would work and worked until he was finished!
Together, we looked at Cabo's homework assignments and when they were due. The language arts assignment is not due until Monday, so Cabo wanted to do assignments due tomorrow first. He struggled with the math homework and verbalized his frustration in trying to solve the problems. After almost half an hour, he gave up saying he needed the teacher's help. He then read the pages assigned in his history book. We spent the last few minutes organizing his desk and putting things away so he will have a clean work space tomorrow.

Lesson Comments
Cabo really seemed to try to get his math done. It took him almost half an hour to solve two of four problems.
We went over Cabo's homework assignments. With encouragement, he started to do his math homework. Cabo stated that he would not finish his math in the time remaining and then would also not have time to do any other homework. He decided to read and answer questions for history first so that one subject would be completed. He then reasoned that since his language arts was not due until Monday, that he would return to his math problems. Cabo's reasoning illustrated good time management. He able to finish his math by the end of session. We spent the last few minutes organizing his desk and room.

Lesson Outline
We went over a new homework rating scale Cabo's teachers will complete each day. Each teacher will record if Cabo 1) completed his homework, 2) partially completed his homework, 3) did not do his homework of 4) no homework was assigned. This way, an objective assessment of homework being completed will be recorded. We looked at the homework for the day and determined the best order to complete the assignments based on time and when assignments are due. Cabo completed his math problems, history and language arts reading. At the end of the hour, we organized his desk area.
