Billy is actually starting to listen and actively working to raise his grades. The results are pretty good so far, as he only has a few assignments outstanding in two classes and has raised almost all of his grades to C's. He's much more receptive to advice in class and I'm very pleased with his effort this week.
Billy has done everything he can to avoid doing the missing work in his classes. I've been asking him for two weeks to talk to his reading teacher and bring those assignments with him. He has yet to do that, but I bought the book they're working on so today, he didn't have any excuse. In talking about the material he says he's already read, it became clear that he's putting little to no effort into this class. He couldn't tell me any of the details, but instead waited for me to spoonfeed them to him. We couldn't work on any of the assignments as I don't know what the teacher is looking for, but he says he will bring them with him on Monday. I gave him the next three chapters to read (he says the teacher won't let him bring the book home) so he can get caught up with the class. We spent the class going over the first section.
She is playing catch up in school, she came in with a couple of things to do in english. I made her flashcards to study her vocabulary and we did most of her homework involving questions on the movie The Patriot. She still has to complete that, and read a short story and answer questions based on that.
Billy did not bring anything to work on again. He has mulitple missing assignments in Reading, but refuses to talk to his reading teacher to find out what they are. I can't help him if I don't know what he has to do. We spent the time talking about work habits and goals. Hopefully he'll bring in work on Wednesday.
Billy again did not bring any work to do. He did not talk to his teachers about his missing work and still doesn't know what he needs to do. We worked on his World History reading assignment and then again went over each class and the work he's missing. Every time I try to engage him about this topic, he brushes me off and says he'll take care of it.
Billy had biology homework which took us a good portion of the session. He's still not focusing on the day to day work as much as I would like, but he is improving. He actually did talk to two of his teachers about extra credit (biology and world history). He has a chance to get extra credit in biology if he stays after school for extra help (10 points per session), but he say's he doesn't want to do that. He didn't have the world history assignment, but say's he will on Wednesday. We went through the list of all his missing work and he had not brought any of it with him, or even talked to his teachers about most of it. Hopefully he'll do that this week.
Billy was 40 minutes late for his session and didn't bring anything to work on. We had talked on Monday about asking his teachers for extra credit work to try to bring up his grades, but he had not talked to any of them as of today. We talked more about what steps he needs to take to raise his grades this quarter and he seems willing to do the work.
Billy did not bring in anything to work on today. We went through each of his classes to see what work he has outstanding, and I got to look at his grades, which are not good. Billy doesn't do any work outside of here, which is something he needs to start doing. We talked about his plan for this quarter, he's committed to talking to each of his teachers and asking for extra credit assignments to try to bring up his grades.
Billy had an assignment for his critical reading class in which he had to compare and contrast A Raisin in the Sun and MLK's I Have a Dream Speech. He had done some work on it, but admitted he had spent no more than 10 minutes on it. He did not include any examples or support for his statements. We reworked his paragraphs and typed up a pretty solid paper.
